JOB DESCRIPTION
A 50% research scientist position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Shuo Chen. The Chen Lab studies the circuit and molecular mechanisms of learning and memory in healthy and disease brains. The lab also develops novel technologies to record and manipulate neuronal activities. The successful candidate will lead projects integrating in vivo electrophysiology, in vitro electrophysiology, calcium imaging, animal behavior, omics, and computational modeling to dissect how circuit‑ and molecular‑level processes give rise to complex behaviors and memory functions.
Additional opportunities exist to develop next‑generation technologies for minimally invasive deep brain simulation.
The employee will work in a neuroscience lab environment. The employee will help design and conduct in vivo/in vitro electrophysiology and imaging experiments in animal models to probe circuit‑level neural mechanisms with a focus on the hippocampus. He/she will also analyze behavioral and electrophysiological data for manuscript preparation.
QUALIFICATIONSMinimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and two years of professional research experience in an appropriate field or a master’s degree in an appropriate field may substitute for one year experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- PhD, MD/PhD, or equivalent doctoral degree in neuroscience, biomedical engineering, computational neuroscience, or related field.
- Strong skills in neurophysiology and systems neuroscience.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment.
Prospective appointees will be checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) and the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR) to ensure compliance with legal screening standards.
