Job Title: Postdoctoral Associate (Abreu Lab)

Job Number: 113226

Location: New York,US

Description

The Abreu lab at NYU Biology is looking for a highly motivated and independent individual to work as a Postdoctoral Associate.

This position is for a post-PhD trainee preparing for a research scientist career path. The planned position will provide a transition to career independence through the development of professional skills; supervision by senior scientist incorporating individual development plan in support of training goals and those of faculty mentor; and publication of research findings/scholarship during postdoc appointment period.

Projects in the Abreu lab involve testing theoretical predictions about eco-evolutionary dynamics in experimental model systems of yeast and bacteria. Planned projects will include genome editing, experimental evolution with DNA-barcoded strains, sequencing analysis and bioinformatics, and basic mathematical modeling, including interfacing with theorists. Our lab harnesses these tools to discover basic principles of eco-evolutionary dynamics, and to formulate rules of how microbial communities respond to changing environments.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $62,500 – $70,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will hold a PhD, have prior research experience in both wet and dry lab techniques (including experimental microbiology, programming in Python/R/another language, and exposure to mathematical modeling), and a track record of peer-reviewed publications. Specific knowledge areas that are helpful (but are not required) include genome editing, RNA-seq, whole-genome sequencing, and mathematical models including Lotka-Volterra and consumer resource models.
