DescriptionThe Abreu lab at NYU Biology is looking for a highly motivated and independent individual to work as a Postdoctoral Associate.
This position is for a post-PhD trainee preparing for a research scientist career path. The planned position will provide a transition to career independence through the development of professional skills; supervision by senior scientist incorporating individual development plan in support of training goals and those of faculty mentor; and publication of research findings/scholarship during postdoc appointment period.
Projects in the Abreu lab involve testing theoretical predictions about eco-evolutionary dynamics in experimental model systems of yeast and bacteria. Planned projects will include genome editing, experimental evolution with DNA-barcoded strains, sequencing analysis and bioinformatics, and basic mathematical modeling, including interfacing with theorists. Our lab harnesses these tools to discover basic principles of eco-evolutionary dynamics, and to formulate rules of how microbial communities respond to changing environments.

QualificationsThe ideal candidate will hold a PhD, have prior research experience in both wet and dry lab techniques (including experimental microbiology, programming in Python/R/another language, and exposure to mathematical modeling), and a track record of peer-reviewed publications. Specific knowledge areas that are helpful (but are not required) include genome editing, RNA-seq, whole-genome sequencing, and mathematical models including Lotka-Volterra and consumer resource models.
