Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Research Associate at Weill Cornell Medicine
Location: New York

Weill Cornell Medicine is searching for a full-time Research Associate in the laboratory of Dr. R. Brad Jones ((Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).) to lead pre‑clinical animal model studies for an amfAR‑funded project to develop a “one‑shot” in vivo engineered T‑cell therapy towards an HIV cure (). This exciting project will utilize a novel in vivo generated cellular therapy (developed by co‑PI Dr. Justin Eyquem at the University of California San Francisco, Nat Med 2022), featured by Nature Biotechnology as a 2025 breakthrough of the year, in conjunction with the participant‑derived xenograft (PDX) humanized mouse model developed in the Jones lab (J Exp Med 2021) – which offers a tractable model to test this therapy in multiple clinically‑relevant settings to inform future human trials.

Dr. Jones’ research is focused on understanding the relationships between HIV‑specific T‑cells and NK cells with the viral reservoirs that persist in antiretroviral‑treated people living with HIV, and on modulating these interactions to cure HIV infection. The Jones lab is the lead site for the ‘Research Enterprise to Advance a Cure for HIV’ (REACH), funded by NIH’s flagship Martin Delaney Collaboratory program for HIV cure research, which creates unparalleled opportunities for global interactions and for pre‑clinical and clinical development of therapeutic leads ().

The Jones lab is also the lead site for the recently funded ‘Innovative Strategies.

Initialize Personalized Immunotherapies and Reservoir Eradication’ (INSPIRE) NIH‑funded UM1 collaboratory.

This position will directly lead the amfAR‑funded project within the Jones Lab, and will support multiple NIH‑funded pre‑clinical animal model studies. These studies include testing engineered immune effectors and novel immun elongation drugs developed by collaborators for antiviral efficacy, and additional development and optimization of the mouse model (e.g., engraftment of dendritic cells and other immune cell populations, vaccine testing). This position will report to Dr.

Jones and will collaborate closely with other lab members including Graduate Students, Postdoctoral Scientists, and Research Scientists. This position will also work closely with collaborators at UCSF, including co‑PIs Drs. Eyquem and Rachel Rutishauser. Duties will include planning, executing, and analyzing immunology and virology experiments in the context of HIV‑1 infection. Please note this is an academic position – the successful candidate will receive mentoring and direct guidance from the Principal Investigator in order to advance their career in academic research.

Requirements
  • A PhD (or equivalent doctoral degree) in a relevant discipline such as Immunology or Molecular Biology, and 4 years of related work experience
  • Or a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline, and 6+ years of related work experience
  • Strong background in mouse model studies, including experience with mouse colony maintenance, handling techniques, and non‑survival surgical procedures
  • Strong background in molecular biology methods such as PCR, Western blotting, ELISA, and transfection procedures
  • Experience with flow cytometry analysis and cell‑based assays
  • Experience with data management and database entry
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols and ethics approvals
  • Strong critical thinking skills, attention to detail, and ability to interpret data and decide on next steps for experimental protocols
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail in experimental documentation

Applicant is expected to work well as part of a diverse team and have enthusiasm for the practice of science.

Applications

Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae and a cover letter detailing experience and an optional statement of research goals and interests to Dr. Jones and Dr. Adam Ward (adw
