Position Summary

The Department of Medicine at Columbia University seeks a highly motivated individual to join the laboratory of Dr. Benjamin Izar, MD as a Technician

B. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting‑edge dhéanamh research in melanoma cancer. The selected candidate will work closely with the Principal Investigator and research scientists to advance the aims of funded grants.

Ideal candidates will have a strong interest in oncology, immunotherapy, cancer genetics, and translational clinical research, with a particular focus on immunoresistant pathways in solid tumors. The laboratory’s research centers on understanding mechanisms of resistance to immune checkpoint blockade and developing novel therapeutic strategies to overcome these barriers. Our ultimate goal is to identify innovative treatment combinations that improve outcomes for patients with melanoma and other solid cancers kür.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain detailed, up-to-date, and accurate recordvall of specimens and reagents.
  • Perform routine laboratory tasks including molecular biology and flow cytometry.
  • Work with laboratory animals.
  • Assist laboratory members in the conduct of experiments as directed by the PI.
  • Perform a variety of analytical techniques including flow cytometry, cell culture, PCR, western blot and immunohistochemistry, under the supervision of the PI or research scientist.
  • Perform routine data processing and assist with data analysis.
  • Perform additional tasks related to research, including ordering laboratory supplies, maintaining inventory, and other duties essential to the efficient operation of the lab.
  • Assist with the development of new assays, policies, and procedures, and participate in the training of new team members and supporting staff.
  • Contribute to fostering a work culture that values scientific excellence, integrity, efficiency, teamwork, continuous learning, and improvement.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Attention to detail and excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Self‑motivated, with the ability to multitask, work independently or collaboratively within a team, and perform effectively under pressure in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and data management.
  • Familiarity and excellent skills with sterile cell culture techniques.
  • Quick learner with an aptitude for adapting to new technologies.
  • Exceptional hands‑on and organizational skills.
  • Strong problem identification and troubleshooting abilities.
Other Requirements
  • The candidate selected for this position is required to undergo a drug screening test prior to a final offer of employment being made.
  • Participation in the medical surveillance program
    • Work with laboratory animals.
    • Potential blood borne pathogen exposure.
  • Successful completion of applicable compliance  requirements.
