Research Associate – Time‑resolved studies of Quantum Materials using coherent x‑rays
Brookhaven National Laboratory is inviting applications for a Research Associate to develop and perform x‑ray pump–probe experiments on quantum condensed matter systems.
Position will be based at the Coherent Hard X‑ray Scattering (CHX) beamline of the National Synchrotron Light Source II (NSLS‑II), collaborating with the X‑ray Scattering Group in Condensed Matter Physics & Materials Science.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Set up an x‑ray pump–probe system using ultrafast laser amplifiers.
- Plan, perform, and analyze coherent x‑ray pump–probe experiments.
- Disseminate research results through conference presentations and publications.
- PhD in physics, materials science, physical chemistry, or a related field.
- Extensive experience designing, setting up, and conducting condensed matter experiments with ultrafast laser systems.
- Proficiency in a programming language such as Python.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience with synchrotron‑based experiments.
- Experience with coherent x‑rays or resonant x‑ray scattering.
- Understanding of light–matter interactions in condensed matter systems.
- Work arrangement:
On‑site. - Candidates must have received a PhD by the commencement of employment.
- After obtaining a PhD, eligible candidates for research associate appointments may not exceed a combined total of 5 years of relevant post‑doc or R&D experience, excluding time for family planning, military service, illness, or other life‑changing events.
Salary: $71,900 – $88,000 per year, commensurate with qualifications.
Brookhaven National Laboratory requires eligible personnel to present REAL‑ REAL‑‑compliant documentation for federal site access.
