The Opportunity

This opportunity to join the Department of Pediatrics at the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons at the rank of Associate Research Scientist with the Division of Cardiology is an exciting one. Columbia University Irving Medical Center, one of the nation's foremost academic health science centers. The Department of Pediatrics at Columbia University Irving Medical Center is the top in comparison with other pediatrics department in the NY region in NIH research funding.

The primary focus of the Targoff Lab is to investigate the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying cardiovascular development and regeneration. We accomplish these goals through the use of zebrafish as a model system and expand our studies into the fields of transcriptional regulation, cardiac mechanobiology, and stem cell biology. We utilize an innovative combination of genetic, live-imaging, single cell genomic, and transgenic approaches.

We seek an energetic and inquisitive scientist who will work in a highly collaborative environment and who demonstrates critical thinking and academic rigor. Outstanding and exceedingly motivated candidates with backgrounds in developmental biology, genetics, and molecular biology.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform molecular biological experiments.
  • Perform confocal imaging.
  • Perform transcripomic anaylsis.
  • Carry out fully planned experiments.
  • Manage animal colonies (zebrafish husbandry) and performing animal work.
  • Interpretation of data and keeping records of results.
  • Contribute to the preparation of reports and publications.
  • Participation in seminars, conferences, lab meetings, and grant writing.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

  • PhD in Epidemiology or Biostatistics or relevant area
  • 2-3 years of postdoctoral training required (applicable only for rank of Associate Research Scientist)
