Job Purpose

The Supplier Quality Engineer, in accordance with the Quality Management System, is responsible for ensuring that products and materials received from suppliers meet company quality standards and regulatory requirements. This role works closely with suppliers, manufacturing, procurement, and engineering teams to prevent defects, resolve quality issues, and drive continuous improvement across the supply base. This role will implement an accountable supplier quality process for purchased products and parts.

Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and qualify new suppliers through audits and quality assessments
  • Develop, review, and approve supplier quality documentation; implement and manage Supplier Quality Scorecards
  • Lead continuous improvement activities to improve Supplier Quality
  • Lead root cause and corrective action activities to resolve field and in-plant quality issues associated with supplier quality. Lead NCR’s and Corrective Action closures including the verification of permanent supplier corrective actions.
  • Monitor supplier performance using KPIs (delivery, corrective actions, audit results)
  • Lead supplier corrective action requests (SCARs) and verify effectiveness
  • Conduct supplier audits (on-site or remote) to ensure compliance with Quality Management System
  • Collaborate with suppliers to resolve nonconformances and prevent recurrence
  • Support new product introductions by ensuring supplier readiness and capability
  • Review incoming inspection data and manage containment activities when issues arise; recommend and implement process improvements as needed
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives with suppliers to reduce cost, risk, and defects
  • Work cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers on tolerancing improvements that will support cost reductions, improved delivery performance and quality improvements as needed
  • Support resolution of COPQ reporting and resolution of COPQ cost recovery with suppliers
  • Partner with purchasing organization to roll out supplier quality program and manage improvement
  • Create a safe and well-organized working environment and actively support the safety process
  • Other duties or tasks as assigned by manager
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, quality, manufacturing or related field; certification as CQE, CQA, or Six Sigma (Green/Black Belt) preferred.
  • ISO 9001, preferred experience with Lead Auditor Certification.
  • 5-10 years in a quality/engineering role in a customer design, manufacturing, welding, or fabrication environment
  • Strong experience with Quality Methodologies including Root Cause Analysis and SPC (Statistical Process Control)
  • In-depth knowledge of the technical aspects of manufacturing and engineering.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
  • Ability to provide guidance to improve process efficiency.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 30%
  • 5 years’ experience following a QMS and supporting Supplier CARs, scorecards, sampling procedures
  • Based out of the New York or Connecticut location.
