Quality Engineer (Brownville, NY)
We have an exciting opportunity for a Quality Engineer to join our Brownville Mill. This role is responsible for ensuring product quality, leading investigations of quality complaints, and driving continuous improvement initiatives while fostering a culture of quality excellence among manufacturing employees.
Responsibilities- Provide visible and clear leadership to manufacturing employees, coaching and supporting performance improvement.
- Maintain accurate quality metrics and communicate professionally with internal and external customers.
- Collaborate with lab technicians to maintain test procedures, manage calibration programs, and ensure equipment readiness.
- Manage quality documents, specifications, and audits within the Quality Management System.
- Handle non-conforming raw materials, WIP materials, and finished materials at the mill.
- Execute the customer complaints process, conduct investigations, implement corrective and preventive actions, and report findings to stakeholders.
- Oversee outturn sampling and Certificate of Analysis (COA) processes.
- Identify and pursue opportunities to improve quality and yield through employee engagement and continuous improvement activities.
- Lead daily improvement initiatives, focused improvement events, and standard work processes to reduce complaints and costs.
- Cultivate a culture of respect, professionalism, and cooperation within the team.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, paper science, or another technical field is required.
- Experience in a process‑oriented manufacturing environment and familiarity with Lean or Six Sigma continuous improvement methods is preferred.
- Highly motivated with strong self‑direction for success in a matrix reporting environment.
- Excellent problem‑solving, quantitative, and analytical skills. Six Sigma or ASQ certification is a plus.
- Detail‑oriented with superior organizational abilities.
- Proficiency in Minitab, Microsoft Office, and ERP systems.
- Strong leadership, change‑management, interpersonal, presentation, and training skills.
