Pharmacy Customer Service Associate – Walgreens

Base Pay Range

$17.50/hr - $19.00/hr

Responsibilities
  • Model and deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience.
  • Register sales on the assigned cash register, providing customers with courteous, fair, friendly, and efficient checkout service.
  • Assist the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of pharmacy in accordance with state and federal regulations. Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
  • Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive customer experience.
  • Share customer service best practices with all team members, including interpersonal habits (e.g., greeting, eye contact, courtesy) and Walgreens service traits (e.g., offering help proactively, identifying needs, servicing until satisfied).
  • Provide customers with courteous, friendly, fast, and efficient service. Recommend items for sale and trade‑up companions. Handle voids, returns, rain checks, refunds, and exchanges, and direct customers to the OTC aisle when possible.
  • Keep counters and shelves clean and well merchandised, take inventory, maintain records, check in and price merchandise as required, or as directed by the store manager or shift leader.
  • Perform duties as assigned by the Pharmacy Manager, Staff Pharmacist, and Store Manager, including entering patient and drug information, filling prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs, verifying medicine, checking for interactions, and assisting pharmacists in scheduling and maintaining workflow.
  • Report prescription errors immediately to the pharmacist on duty and adhere to Company policies and the Pharmacy Code of Conduct. Follow Good Faith Dispensing policies.
  • Handle telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist’s personal attention, including calls to physicians.
  • Process (correct and resubmit) manual claims for third‑party prescription services in a timely, efficient manner and perform other clerical duties as assigned.
  • Assist the Pharmacy Department with inventory management activities, including ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing shipments; file claims for warehouse overages, shortages, or damaged goods.
  • Ensure compliance with state and local laws regarding regulated products (e.g., alcoholic beverages, tobacco).
  • Construct and maintain displays, including promotional, seasonal, and sale merchandise, and complete resets and revisions as directed.
  • Assist with separation of food items and product placement as specified by policies (e.g., raw meats on bottom shelves); rotate consumables using FIFO.
  • Provide customer service in the photo area: passport photos, poster printing, creative machine, and suggestive selling of promotional photo products.
  • Assume web pickup responsibilities: monitor orders, pick items, and deliver orders to customers as they arrive.
  • Assist with exterior and interior maintenance, keeping the store clean, neat, and orderly, and maintain respectful relationships with coworkers.
  • Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.
Training & Personal Development
  • Earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program or state‑required certification/registration.
  • Attend training, complete required PPLs, and acquire continuing education credits. Maintain knowledge and skill in healthcare and pharmacy, including latest news and developments.
Basic Qualifications
  • Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekend hours.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience in a retail environment (6+ months).
  • Prior work experience with Walgreens.
  • Good math skills for accurate prescription filling, counting, measuring, and weighing medications.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Knowledge of store inventory control.
  • PTCB certification.
