Veterinary Student Externship

Bond Vet is on a mission to strengthen the human‑animal bond through better pet care. We offer primary and urgent care, and our clinics are designed to be warm, friendly, and highly sniffable, while integrating a strong focus on technology built in‑house to enhance the veterinary team, pets, and client experience.

The Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Student Extern program provides a hands‑on clinical experience that fosters growth and development essential to your progression through the clinical years of veterinary school. As an extern, you will be immersed in the daily operations of our cutting‑edge veterinary clinics while advancing your skills and knowledge in a program tailored to your interests.

• Interact with pet parents and gather patient history.
• Observe and help develop treatment plans; estimate creation and presentation.
• Perform physical examinations and review medical records.
• Assist in administering medications, subcutaneous fluids, IV fluids, and other treatments under supervision.
• Assist with procedures such as placing urinary catheters in male dogs, drawing blood from cephalic or saphenous veins, and using ultrasound for anatomic identification.
• Help scrub in and assist in surgical or procedural cases under full supervision of the attending Doctor.
• Observe sample preparation for reference laboratory testing and prepare/ review ear cytology or blood smear samples.

• Currently enrolled in the 3rd or 4th year of an AVMA‑accredited DVM program.
• Open‑mind, collaborative spirit, and willingness to learn.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Uphold confidentiality standards for sensitive information.
• Effective communication skills.
• Capable of lifting up to 40 pounds and performing physical tasks such as bending, crouching, squatting, and carrying equipment.
• Provide proof of medical insurance, rabies vaccine/titer, tetanus vaccine, and a recent TB test before program start.

• Externship duration: minimum two weeks, up to three weeks based on school requirements.
• Schedule created per school requirements and provided before first day.
• Weekend hours may be required based on school and supervising Doctor’s schedule.
• No overnight boarding or extreme shift hours; clinics operate standard regional hours.

We accept externship applications throughout the year, but due to high demand, we recommend submitting at least one year in advance of your expected rotation. Provide the following:

• Resume.
• Three (3) sets of available dates.
• Any school requirements, policies, or forms regarding externships.

Note: This externship is for credit. You must arrange your own accommodation and transportation; select your preferred region and the specific clinic will be assigned during the interview process.
