Job Title

GARDENER - 81310 (Assignment Level I)

• Control weedy plants along arterial highways in all five boroughs.
• Perform herbicide application, tree planting, inspect roadway landscape planting in medians, turf establishment, manual weed control, and general landscape maintenance including snow removal.
• Operate and maintain hand and power gardening tools and equipment, adjust operating parameters as needed.
• Initiate requests for repairs and replacements, maintain simple records, and prepare written reports.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

• One year of full‑time gardening experience, including planting, cultivating and caring for trees, plants, shrubs, and lawns.
• Or a horticulture or botanic certificate with college‑level courses.
• Or an equivalent combination of education and experience, including 30 semester credits, 15 of which in horticulture or related fields.
• Commercial Pesticide Applicator – Category 3A License issued by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (must be maintained). Additional year of experience required if promoting to Level II.

A valid motor‑vehicle driver license in the State of New York, maintained throughout employment.
