Position Summary
The Diabetes Hotline Nurse within the Office of School Health (OSH) Central Office Nursing Team will be responsible for supporting nurses, healthcare providers, and parents of students with diabetes, primarily by ensuring the required Diabetes Medication Administration Forms (DMAF) are completed and clearly understood. Performs related work.
Reports to: Diabetes Supervisor of Nurses
Direct Reports: N/A
Key Relationships: Works closely with the Diabetes Supervisor of Nurses, Diabetes Nurse Educators (DNEs), Medical team staff, OSH Nurses, agency nurses, OSH and external healthcare providers, parents, school staff, nursing supervisors, borough nursing directors, central office, and others as necessary.
Responsibilities- Answer and return all calls to the Diabetes Medication Administration Form (DMAF) Hotline.
- Provide the school nurse with current approved DMAF orders in a timely manner.
- Collaborate to coordinate care between the OSH providers, endocrinologists, parents, DNEs, and school nurses for the student with diabetes DMAF approval according to OSH policy.
- Update nursing’s DMAF Hotline log daily.
- Provide approved DMAF to OSH and agency nurses who may not have access to the Automated Student Health Record (ASHR).
- Contact endocrinologists for clarification of DMAF orders.
- Reach out to nurses and parents/guardians for signed consent or missing information from DMAF to expedite DMAF approval.
- Liaise with the OSH medical unit for status and updates on DMAF approvals.
- Ensure DMAF orders for NYC school children are approved expeditiously and are in ASHR.
- A valid New York State Registered Nurse License.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing or a health-related field.
- Significant experience with children with diabetes.
- Prior nursing experience in a school or public service setting.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of health care agencies and services provided in the New York metropolitan area.
$78,364 (Internal candidates who are selected for this position and who currently hold comparable or less senior positions within the DOE will not earn less than their current salary.)
