Position SummaryAssistant Nurse Manager, Neonatal ICU, Evening Shift. Provides clinical leadership and management for a designated time period (shift) for a patient care unit or clinical service, aligned with institutional philosophy and goals. Supports the nurse manager to create an environment of excellence in patient/family service, staff development, and evidence-based practice to improve patient care.

- Evaluates performance and practice of designated personnel in a fair and transparent manner.
- Serves as a role model and resource for staff; promotes professional growth and development.
- Monitors attendance and ensures appropriate staffing and skill mix to optimize patient outcomes and safety while supporting fiscal responsibility.
- Coordinates care delivery and staff assignment based on patient care needs and clinical competency for optimal unit operation.
- Assists in scheduling, payroll, and integration of services across the care continuum.
- Provides direct patient care as needed to support unit operations.
- Supports leadership of other unit(s) in the service.
- Holds self and others accountable for delivering exemplary care in a cost-efficient manner.
- Assists with maintaining accreditation, regulatory standards, service standards and policies at organizational, local, state, and federal levels.
- Communicates clearly and with integrity to build trust with stakeholders.
- Communicates significant patient care issues, family concerns, safety and risk management concerns, and critical events to leadership; seeks consultation as indicated and reports in a timely manner.
- Regularly communicates with the Nurse Manager about patient safety, clinical practice, staff performance, and participates in unit initiatives.
- Participates in drafting nursing and organizational policy, engaging frontline staff and incorporating shared governance.
- Supports data collection and analyzes data with the team to drive practice changes that improve quality, safety, patient experience, and productivity.
- Assists leadership with maintaining licenses, certifications, mandated trainings, and content for unit staff.
- Fosters high reliability, inquiry, innovation, and transformation with a focus on the future.
- Encourages staff involvement in nursing research, quality improvement, and evidence-based practice.
- Leads and supports development of new insights to complex situations and programs/processes.
- Exercises independent judgment in duties, including discipline, evaluations, time-off approvals, and staffing decisions.
Current Registered Professional Nurse licensure in New York State;
Baccalaureate degree in Nursing; 2 years of experience;
Certification in nursing leadership upon eligibility; ability to apply nursing process toward outcomes addressing patient/family satisfaction and quality indicators; excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, critical thinking, problem-solving, and leadership skills;
Basic Life Support Certification through the American Heart Association; physical stamina and dexterity to perform responsibilities, including the ability to handle and move reasonably heavy weight.
Registered Nurse License – NYS;
Basic Life Support certification.
Master’s degree in nursing or health-related area; two or more years of clinical practice in the patient population served.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
