Location: Montrose
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application.
The Registered Nurse (Wound Care) provides specialized nursing care to patients with acute and chronic wounds through assessment, treatment planning, and implementation of evidence-based interventions. The nurse evaluates wound conditions, develops individualized care plans, and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to promote healing and prevent complications. The position supports quality improvement initiatives, patient education, and pressure injury prevention programs while ensuring compliance with clinical standards and regulatory requirements.
Depending on grade level, the nurse may also provide leadership, education, and consultation to staff and participate in program coordination and performance improvement activities related to wound care services. Duties include but are not limited to:
* Provides nursing care to patients with acute and chronic wounds through assessment, treatment planning, and implementation of appropriate interventions.
* Conducts comprehensive patient assessments and evaluates wound status to determine appropriate care and treatment strategies.
* Develops, implements, and evaluates individualized care plans using evidence-based wound care practices.
* Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate care, support discharge planning, and improve patient outcomes.
* Provides education to patients, families, and healthcare staff regarding wound prevention, treatment, and management strategies.
* Monitors and analyzes pressure injury prevention and wound care performance data to support quality improvement initiatives.
* Maintains knowledge of wound care products, equipment, and specialty support surfaces used in treatment and prevention.
* Participates in interdisciplinary meetings, committees, and clinical initiatives focused on improving wound care practices and patient safety.
* Supports staff competency development and provides guidance related to wound care practices and pressure injury prevention.
* Documents clinical assessments, interventions, and patient progress in accordance with organizational policies and standards.
* May assist with coordination of wound care services, quality monitoring, and program improvement activities depending on level of assignment.
