Position: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - MedSurg Ortho/Neuro

Job Description

Renders direct nursing care to assigned patients and carries out other nursing tasks and functions including technical/laboratory procedures. Assists the professional nurse in the provision of nursing care on the clinical unit

Job Responsibility

* Assists the registered nurse in provision of nursing care.

* Gives direct patient care as assigned by the professional nurse.

* Administers medications and treatments according to policy.

* Observes, records and reports patients vital signs, symptoms and general condition to appropriate staff member.

* Prepares for and assists physicians and others with diagnostic procedures and treatments.

* Assists in patients' teaching program.

* Gathers data from patient/family which is used by Registered Nurse in making the initial assessment and developing a nursing care plan.

* Recognizes emergencies and initiates action.

* Maintains records relating to patient care

* Records nursing care given, observations and patients' responses to nursing interventions on progress notes.

* Charts medications and treatments administered and patients' reaction to same.

* Participates in gathering data on patients upon admission to provide information from which a nursing care plan can be developed.

* Assists in maintaining a clean and safe environment for patients by keeping the patient's bedside unit and surroundings clean, safe and noise free as possible.

* Performs related duties, as required.

Job Qualification

* High School Diploma or equivalent, required.

* Completed accredited Practical Nurse program, required.

* Licensed as a Practical Nurse in the State of New York

* Previous related experience preferred.
