Position: Registered Nurse-Psychiatry FT DAYS
Location: New York

Position Summary

Regarded as a critical member of the team, Registered Nurses at SBELIH diagnose and treat actual or potential health problems using nursing methods and techniques such as case finding, health teaching, and counseling. Incumbents provide care that supports restorative health and well‑being while adhering to medical regimens.

Job Duties and Essential Functions
  • Assess the patient’s condition and nursing needs; coordinate nursing care activities with other health disciplines to integrate the nursing regimen with the treatment plan.
  • Develop a written individualized care plan that includes teaching needs and discharge planning.
  • Administer direct care when professional nursing skills and judgment are required.
  • Administer medication.
  • Practice infection control and participate in maintaining a clean and safe environment.
  • Assume responsibility and accountability for the delivery of nursing care to all assigned patients. Communicate changes and questions about patient care to Charge RN/Clinician.
  • Maintain current written plans of care. Set priorities, patient goals, and patient/family involvement.
  • Document evidence in the medical record of patient/family teaching and understanding.
  • Communicate and work effectively with staff and other departments.
  • Participate in unit or hospital‑based quality assurance activities or committees.

Required Experience and Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Possession of or eligibility for a license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New York State.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Preferred Experience and Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree preferred. Registered Nurses licensed on or after December 19, 2017, must obtain a BSN within 10 years of initial RN licensure.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
  • Psychiatric‑Mental Health PMH‑BC specialty credential preferred.
  • One (1) year of Behavioral Health/Psychiatric experience preferred.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move quickly for extended periods, especially during emergencies.
  • Ability to assist with patient transfers, repositioning, and physical interventions if needed.
  • Lifting and transferring patients, including those who may be physically aggressive or uncooperative, using safety techniques and equipment.
  • Handling equipment and supplies needed for emergency care.
  • Reacting quickly to situations involving restraint, agitation, or aggression.
  • Providing physical support in restraining or de‑escalating patients if necessary.
  • Using medical instruments, administering medications, and managing equipment with precision.
  • Performing documentation, injections, and manipulation of medical equipment.
  • Maintaining physical and mental alertness during long shifts, including night shifts and weekends.
  • Managing high‑stress situations with clear decision‑making.
  • Handling emotional and physical challenges of caring for agitated or crisis patients.
  • Responding quickly and using restraint procedures to stabilize patients in crisis.
  • Tailored demands require high alertness, physical engagement, and responsiveness, especially with acute psychiatric distress.

Anticipated Pay Range

The starting salary range reflects the candidate’s experience. The range represents SBELIH’s good faith estimate of possible compensation at the time of posting.
