Nurse Practitioner

Overview

Sun River Health is seeking a Full-Time Nurse Practitioner to join our team supporting the St. Ann's site, in the Bronx. A Nurse Practitioner, under the direction of a physician, is responsible for planning, evaluating and delivering the health care of patients on assigned service. Emphasis is placed on preventative health measures and patient education. The NP will perform other duties as assigned and in compliance with system and job-specific standards.

• Takes histories, performs physical examinations, gives immunizations (as necessary) and conducts patient education and counseling.
• Orders appropriate lab work, may draw blood for lab work, and performs some lab tests such as wet prep microscopic exams.
• Prescribes treatment for minor illnesses and consults with physician regarding medication, chronic illness and referrals when appropriate.
• Maintains legible and appropriate documentation and reviews records periodically; follows up on abnormal pap smears and reportable STDs.
• Attends case conferences involving patients and participates in quality improvement programs and team assignments.
• Attends continuing education programs to increase skills and knowledge.
• Identifies and categorizes each patient’s age-specific needs (infants, adolescents, geriatric).
• Follows OSHA infection control standards under CDC guidelines as endorsed by the department and Infection Control Officer.
• Provides safe and successful performance, including meeting productivity, quality and patient satisfaction standards.

• Minimum Education:
  
  Master’s Degree
• Minimum Work-Related
  
  Experience:
  
  5-8 years; 4 years of business office experience, preferably in a large medical practice with increasing levels of responsibility.

• Minimum Licensure:
  Valid Nurse Practitioner license in New York State and CPR/BLS

• Knowledge of diagnostic and treatment procedures for nurse practitioners in health care centers.
• Competence in delivering health care including preventative health education.
• Ability to collaborate with other health center staff to maintain high quality standards and patient satisfaction.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish (oral and written) preferred
