Overview
The Wound Ostomy Certified Nurse Educator plays a vital role in delivering expert wound, ostomy, and continence care, as well as providing education and consultation to clinical staff and patients. This position ensures the application of evidence-based practices, policy development, and interdisciplinary collaboration to optimize patient outcomes and enhance staff knowledge and competency.
Job DetailsNurse Educator & Wound Ostomy Certified Nurse Responsibilities :
- Provide expert consultation, direct care, and education in wound, ostomy, and continence management for hospitalized patients. Collaborate with clinical teams to assess, plan, and evaluate individualized care plans, including product recommendations and patient progress monitoring. Support staff with complex cases involving wounds, fistulas, ostomies, and incontinence.
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, and training related to WOC care. Deliver formal and informal staff education, serve as a preceptor, and guide appropriate use of wound care products and equipment. Promote diabetes education in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Demonstrate leadership through participation in interdisciplinary rounds, committees, and quality initiatives. Drive process improvements in pressure injury prevention, staff performance feedback, and patient safety projects across departments.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
- Master’s degree in Nursing preferred
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State
- Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nurse (WOCN) certification required
- In-depth knowledge of New York State and federal healthcare regulations, including standards set by The Joint Commission (TJC), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and the Department of Health (DOH)
- Excellent communication, teaching, leadership, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills
