The Assistant Nurse Manager will provide daily operational oversight while working alongside colleagues and physicians to reach optimal outcomes. This role provides and integrates clinical leadership and management of patient care, consistent with the philosophy and goals of the institution, department of nursing, and clinical service; it develops and sustains an environment of excellence in patient and family service, growth and development of staff, and application of evidence‑based practice.
The Assistant Nurse Manager collaborates with leadership to enhance patient experience, quality outcomes, nurse retention and recruitment, staff scheduling, and financial stewardship. The Assistant Nurse Manager plays a crucial role to ensure unit compliance for all Joint Commission patient care standards.
- Demonstrates and promotes effective communication, respect, and recognition to team members with consistent action toward a comfortable culture to result in nurse retention.
- Guides clinical management and administrative coordination of the department utilizing interdisciplinary resources.
- Assists with selecting, orienting, educating, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and evaluating staff with the Nurse Manager/Director, consistent with principles of a caring, fair, and professional work environment.
- Ensures staff are well trained and familiar with all aspects of patient care.
- Participates in annual employee evaluations and process.
- Coordinates a high standard of care in accordance with regulations and standards.
- Assists leadership team by partnering with employees who are in an action plan or need to improve in the function of their role.
- Participates in shared decision‑making within the established annual unit budget and makes recommendations and decisions that promote the cost‑effective allocation of resources.
- Monitors productivity and coaches staff toward flexibility.
- Facilitates cost savings.
- Coaches staff for continual delivery of high‑quality nursing care in collaboration with the Nurse Manager, Director, Clinical Educator, and other members of the leadership team through measurement of health outcomes against standards.
- Participates in quality improvement programs consistent with organizational goals.
- Education:
Graduate of an accredited nursing program. - Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience; leadership experience strongly preferred. - Licensure:
Currently licensed in the State of New York as a Registered Professional Nurse. - Certification:
Will obtain BLS during the introductory period; ACLS, PALS.
- Previous leadership experience strongly preferred.
- BSN.
- Repetitive use of hands and fingers, including use of a computer keyboard; may require lifting and carrying light loads (up to 40 lb), including boxes, equipment, IV solutions, and stooping and kneeling to pick up items from the floor or replace items on lower shelves and file documents in lower file drawers. Sitting, walking, or standing for long periods of time may be necessary.
Must be physically able to operate the equipment used for the job.

- $43 to $54.13 per hour.
