Description
Under the general supervision of the Department and in clinical collaboration with a physician, the nurse practitioner provides comprehensive health care, determines and delivers primary care, engages in health and mental health screening and disease prevention. Supervision, consultation and teaching/training may be provided to nursing, counseling, and other health care professionals. Provided comprehensive care to patients who have been diagnosed with cancer, but also provides consulting and education to their patients' families.
Responsibilities- Perform Comprehensive assessment on Hematology /Oncology patients.
- Administer cancer treatments
- Explain the treatments and answer questions for patients
- Manage the side effects of cancer treatments and help manage pain.
- Monitor vitals and lab results of patients
- Coordinate the patient’s care with all other providers
- Support the emotional well-being of patients
- Provide information on resources for family members
Type: Full-Time
Location: Multiple sites within SBH Campus
QualificationsA. Education and Experience:
Master of Science Degree in Nursing with an accredited Nurse Practitioner curriculum and three years of nursing experience.
Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing, and from a recognized college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and Master’s Degree in a health-related field and certification as a Nurse Practitioner from an accredited program and, in addition, three years of nursing experience.
Two years’ experience in Oncology.
B. Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Attributes:
Thorough knowledge of current nursing techniques and procedures; knowledge of the New York State Practice Act, the American Nurses Association Standards and the Joint Commission of Accreditation of Hospital Standards, particularly as they apply to the Nurse Practitioner; knowledge of the principles of patient education; ability to collaborate with physicians and other health care professionals in the development of primary health care.
C. Credentials Required:
- Current valid license to practice nursing in New York State
- Certification as ANP, FNP or PNP with prescriptive privileges by New York State
- ANA certification in Adult or Family Practice preferred
- ONC certification
- Chemotherapy certification
