EssentialFunctions
Reporting to the Director of Health and Wellness, the RN is a year‑round position, serving as an integral part of the interdisciplinary team. The RN employs an evidence‑based, student‑centric approach to providing high‑quality, direct and indirect nursing, medical and overall proactive wellness care to our students. The RN works collaboratively with other staff within the school to provide front line support for the daily operations related to student health and wellbeing both on and off campus, guiding and mentoring students, assisting with emergency response procedures, and collaborating with all members of the Shrub Oak staff.
The RN builds trusting relationships with students, families, the community and other medical service providers, while representing Shrub Oak International School in a respectful and competent manner.
- Collaborate with Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner around holistic health of students and intersection of physical and psychiatric/emotional well‑being
- Monitoring of students’ health and wellness, and perform medical assessment of The Pines residents both as needed and on a routine basis
- Provide crisis response and first‑aid for medical emergencies or student injuries, including collaboration with Emergency Medical Services as needed
- Maintain an assigned caseload of students to provide medical case management including;
Collaboration with student guardian/ family members around medical needs and medical care;
Collaboration with youth primary and specialist medical providers;
Scheduling of needed appointments including bloodwork, medical, vision, dental, and others as needed;
Routine monitoring of students’ height, weight, and vital signs;
Administration of student prescribed medications;
Collaboration with nutritionist and food service around dietary and health needs;
Perform assessment and body‑mark checks with students at admission and discharge, as well as following significant incidents or allegations;
Coordinate with medical providers and pharmacy around prescriptions and refills of student medications;
Work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team of providers including psychiatric, clinical, education, and direct‑care providers. - Works directly with students and through Direct Support Professionals to provide health education and support students in the development of healthy lifestyle habits.

Experience &
Education:
- Required:
- Current NYS Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in good professional standing
- Minimum 2 years of experience as an RN working with children/adolescents
- Experience working with youth with autism and/or psychiatric illness preferred
- Experience working with children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and/or co‑occurring conditions.
- Ability to Complete Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Training for Schools (TCIS) in its entirety
- Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) or higher.
- Experience working in a therapeutic or residential school setting.
- Experience with crisis management and first‑aid.
- Training in psychiatric nursing or experience in psychiatric care.
