Oncology Research Nurse Practitioner — Columbia University Irving Medical Center
Join to apply for the Oncology Research Nurse Practitioner role at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. The position: 35 hours per week, regular status, with potential for 4- or 5-day work weeks depending on business needs. Salary range: $125,000 - $135,000 (final salary determined by factors including department budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, and training).
Responsibilities
- Direct patient care: conduct informed consent discussions and obtain consent; perform protocol visits independently or with the treating physician; initial or restaging assessments with the physician; perform/ review protocol assessments; take comprehensive history and perform physical examinations.
- Order and interpret radiology, laboratory, and diagnostic tests; perform diagnostic testing and therapeutic procedures approved by the Clinical Service Chief.
- Evaluate and treat patients per history, exams, tests, and protocol guidelines; prescribe and manage supportive care medications.
- Collaborate with Oncology Research RN/NP or Physician Investigator to ensure assessments are within treatment parameters; initiate referrals as needed; evaluate for adverse events and manage them per protocol; monitor drug accountability and patient responses intra- and post-study drug administration.
- Provide study-related patient education; perform phone triage and assessments as required per protocol and prescribe treatment as needed.
Documentation
- Maintain timely research nursing documentation per CPDM’s Research Nursing Documentation SOP and standard of care documentation.
- Write/Enter study drug and standard of care orders according to protocol and hospital guidelines; verify orders entered by others.
Billing
- Submit billing for standard of care procedures performed.
Other duties
- Maintain NP credentialing; obtain pre-certifications and prior authorizations as requested; provide guidance and leadership to disease team members; serve as a Co-Investigator.
- Attend required meetings (disease-specific, departmental, SIVs); perform self-directed protocol review and reeducation; complete required study-related training; create protocol-related in services for inpatient and outpatient nursing staff.
- Eligible for Oncology Research Nurse Practitioner II after two years; perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum:
Master’s Degree in Nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice with 2 years related experience; current NYS NP and RN license; NYS Adult Nurse Practitioner license and national board certification; successful credentialing by NYP; BLS and DEA certifications. - Preferred:
Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills; computer proficiency (MS Word, familiarity with Mac/PC); clinical research or oncology nursing experience preferred.
