POSITION SUMMARY

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Oncology Clinical Research Nurse Manager. Under the supervision of the Administrative Director of Clinical Operations for the Perlmutter Cancer Center (PCC) Clinical Trials Office (CTO) and the Medical Director of the Clinical Trials Office, the Oncology Clinical Research Nurse Manager provides consistent leadership and oversight of the daily activities of the CTO Clinical Coordination Unit (CCU) ensuring compliance with institutional and research related regulatory requirements.

The Oncology Clinical Research Nurse Manager is responsible for managing and continuously evaluating a comprehensive onboarding and training program to ensure the ongoing development of Oncology Clinical Research Nurses and Clinical Research Coordinators involved in the conduct of both therapeutic and non therapeutic clinical research. The Nurse Manager is responsible for the day to day operations of the unit, supervision of research nurses and clinical research coordinators, ensuring all clinical staff maintain good quality source documentation according to ICH-GCP guidelines and FDA regulations while satisfying HIPAA and patient rights, rules and regulations.

The Nurse Manager creates and communicates new and amended standard operating procedures to staff under the supervision of the Administrative Director, Clinical Operations, the Administrative Director of Data and Regulatory Affairs, and the CTO Medical Director. The Nurse Manager conveys a positive and professional image while representing the clinical trials office in a professional, courteous, and efficient manner.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Provides cross coverage for clinical management colleagues within the CCU.
  • Demonstrates flexibility to shifting priorities and rapid change. Understands broad organizational and business issues, has and uses cross functional knowledge, and knows how to get things done and whom to involve at the appropriate time.
  • Gathers relevant information systematically to generate solutions. Adept at using statistical/financial information to problem solve and grasps complexities and perceives relationships between issues.
  • Considers a wide range of factors when making decisions; develops business plans to meet customer needs; adjusts actions and decisions for focus on critical strategic issues.
  • Conducts performance management monitoring and participates in problem identification and solution finding to improve key processes/systems/patient care. Shares results in staff meetings and encourages staff participation in performance management and quality improvement initiatives. Participates on a voluntary or appointed basis in inter and intra-departmental and inter-disciplinary committees to improve patient care.
  • Supports and models the principles of a high-reliability organization.
  • Serves as a role model to staff in considering needs and behaviors of specific patient & cultural groups. Demonstrates an awareness of and respect for coworkers and patients cultural background.
  • Maintains awareness of research protocols, ensures knowledge of staff, protects patient rights, and participates in assessment & evaluation of outcomes. Participates in protocol feasibility process, to ensure availability of resources in order to fully execute clinical trials safely and efficiently. Participates in the identification and planning for future resource allocation.
  • Demonstrates awareness and recognition of the daily clinical plan of care.
  • Assumes responsibilities for clinical operations for oncology clinical research, collaborating with PCC and CTO leadership. Oversees the day-to-day activities of the CCU staff to ensure safe patient care and practices compliant with institutional policies, GCP guidelines and federal regulations.
  • Collaborates with CTO managers and directors to ensure effective and efficient intra-departmental team collaboration and communication and acts as a role model to all CTO staff by consistently demonstrating positive and professional collaboration within the CTO, PCC and NYU.
