We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Licensed Practical Nurse. In this role, the FGP LPN will assist the RN in the care of patients and families by completing assigned patient care tasks in accordance with the NYS LPN scope of practice and NYULH policy. The FGP LPN will provide competent, safe, and compassionate care with emphasis on an understanding of the challenges faced by health maintenance, illness, hospitalization, procedures, or diagnostic testing.
The FGP LPN will check vital signs, record a patient’s medical history, and utilize specialized skills and safety when carrying out specific tasks of patient care as assigned, including phlebotomy, point of care testing via finger stick, with certification, and electrocardiograms.
Participates in patient centered quality and performance improvement program consistent with service and departmental programs. Acquires and maintains current LPN knowledge and competence to fulfill responsibilities. Supports the missions, philosophy, standards, goals and objectives of NYULH Collects patient healthcare data systematically and, on an on-going basis, using appropriate assessment techniques and instruments. Enforces adherence of NYULH and FGP policies and procedures and standards including but not limited to HIPAA, Compliance, Human Resources, etc.
Participates in coordination of unit activities to provide patient care in a healing, humane and caring environment. Engages in self-assessment and participates in activities to promote own professional growth and development. Obtains patient vital signs, weights, EKGs as needed. Performs blood collection/phlebotomy as needed. Administers medications, including injections in accordance with NYULMC clinical guidelines and NYS Scope of Practice. Assists with maintaining patient flow to and from exam rooms and treatment areas.
Assists in escorting patients. Ensure chart is available, with relevant lab work and test reports if indicated, for physician when the physician sees the patient. Maintains an awareness of current patient centered evidence-based practices and uses knowledge of applicable research data in provision of patient care. Collaborates with members of the interdisciplinary team and promotes collegial relationships. Assists patients and communicates with licensed providers to obtain prescription renewals as needed.
Performs patient related functions as directed by the Licensed Provider and/or Registered Nurse (RN), and documents properly. These may include the following, as governed by LPN scope of practice: medication administration, vaccination, other injections, and patch placement, set up and/or assist for procedure. Communicates directly with patients regarding their care or treatment using appropriate terminology and respectful manner. Interacts with medical staff efficiently.
