Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Nursing Attendant-Central Nursing Service-Evening Shift (37.5 Hours). In this role, the successful candidate assists in the implementation of the nursing process by performing direct and indirect patient care to assigned patients under the supervision of the Registered Professional Nurse, and helps maintain an orderly and safe patient care environment and unit.

Job Responsibilities
  • Assists with Admission/Transfer/Discharge of patients; orients patient to hospital environment; provides toileting supplies; assists with property and clothing handling; prepares bedside unit to receive patients; assists with discharge procedures; escorts patient as necessary and remains with the patient until discharge from the building.
  • Conducts patient rounds for toileting, positioning, comfort, safety and personal needs; answers patient call lights and responds to patient needs promptly.
  • Assembles oxygen delivery and suction setups as directed.
  • Provides basic hygiene to patients (bathing, AM/PM care, mouth care, denture care, hair care, nail/foot care, shaving) and assists patients with bedpan, urinal and/or commode use.
  • Prepares patients for meals, clears overbed tables, places items within reach, positions patient for eating, and assists with feeding as needed.
  • Performs and/or assists with simple treatments; removes and reapplies SCD wraps as directed by the RN; assists RN with enema procedures.
  • Collects specimens as directed by RN.
  • Informs RN of audible clinical alarms (IV pumps, feeding pumps, ventilators, bedside monitors) and responds to alarms as directed.
  • Assists with moving, lifting, positioning and transporting patients.
  • Assists with removal and security of patient personal items prior to procedures as needed.
  • Changes linen in accordance with policy and as necessary.
  • Records vital signs and other measures (blood pressure, temperature, pulse, pulse oximetry, respiration) per care level standard and as directed by the RN; reports abnormalities.
  • Weighs patients and records information on admission as ordered or directed by RN; measures and records intake/outake as appropriate.
  • Performs post-mortem care when required.
  • Conducts safety observations for patients on continuous observation or in restraints, per policy and as directed.
  • Reports changes in patient condition to the RN; responds to patient/family needs and concerns with compassion and professionalism.
  • Maintains competence through in-service and educational programs; attends staff meetings and documents minutes as required.
  • Maintains a safe, clean environment in patient rooms and manages supplies and equipment per department standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including errands, relieving other units, and assisting other health team members.
Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent required. Graduate of Certified Nursing Attendant program or minimum 6 months relevant experience. BLS/Heartsaver CPR/AED certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) required upon entry to the position. Competencies include working knowledge of English (verbal, reading and writing); strong customer service and communication skills; other language skills are an asset.

Required Licenses

Basic Life Support Certification (BLS).

Salary Transparency

Salary range for the role is $50,559.79 - $52,757.31 annually. Actual salaries depend on factors including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. This range does not include bonuses, incentives, differential pay, or other compensation.
