MAIN FUNCTION:

The RN is a professional caregiver responsible for a group of patients during a designated timeframe, providing care through therapeutic use of self, the nursing process, the environment/instrumentation, and collaboration with other healthcare team members. The RN performs duties according to established standards of care and the core values of the Division of Nursing. Reports to the assigned Unit Director.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Nursing Process Assessment

  • Performs ongoing, systematic assessment/data collection focusing on physiologic, psychological, and cognitive status of patients.
  • Analyzes assessment data to determine appropriate nursing diagnoses.
  • Identifies expected outcomes individualized to the patient.
  • Formulates a goal-directed plan of care based on nursing diagnoses and patient outcomes.
  • Identifies patient/significant other learning needs and implements measures to meet them.
  • Implementation

  • Implements care in a knowledgeable, skillful, consistent, and continuous manner.
  • Performs documentation duties accurately, timely, and concisely.
  • Evaluation

  • Evaluates the effectiveness of self, care provided by all healthcare team members, and the contribution of systems, environment, and instrumentation in progressing the patient toward outcomes.

  • Functions with awareness and application of safety issues identified within the institution.
  • Performs efficiently in emergency situations following protocols, remaining calm, informing appropriate persons, and documenting events.

  • Incorporates hourly rounding into daily practice.

    EDUCATION:

    Current NYS nursing licensure, limited permit, or eligibility. Excellent communication and writing skills.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    Requires physical effort such as lifting, pulling, pushing, and moving patients of various sizes. Some reaching and stooping. Must be on feet most of the time.
