Column Technical Services is seeking a skilled Volunteer Resources Coordinator to support the development, coordination, and evaluation of its in‑service volunteer program in New York, NY. As the primary staff liaison to more than 15 departments across the Center, this role also oversees key administrative functions to ensure smooth operations and meaningful volunteer engagement. This position is predominantly onsite, with the potential for one hybrid day each week. Applicants based in NY or NJ are preferred.
This role functions partly as an HR Recruiter, and Workday ATS experience is strongly preferred. In addition to core recruiting responsibilities, the position also oversees volunteer administration and manages the overall volunteer program.
Key Responsibilities :Volunteer Selection & Placement
Conducts a minimum of 5 interviews weekly to assess applicants' suitability based on :
- Motivation and availability
- Relevant skills ( languages, child life experience, comfort with acutely ill patients)
- Ability to follow guidelines and receive supervision
- Expectations of the volunteer experience
- Communication skills and personality fit
- Previous volunteer experience
- Comfort working in a cancer care setting
- Matches volunteers to departmental needs and communicates placement decisions
- Performs reference checks as needed
Manages daily volunteer operations and scheduling to optimize departmental support
Shares weekly volunteer schedules with staff supervisors via email or hand delivery
Responds to real-time volunteer needs and inquiries
Oversees compliance with departmental requirements :- General orientation
- Child life and HIPAA training
- Medical clearances (TB testing, inoculations)
- Six-month and annual assessments
- Maintains confidentiality, especially for volunteers who are former patient
- Short-Term Volunteer Requests*
- Coordinates short-term volunteer assignments by gathering :
- Project details and preferred hours
- Required skills and training plans
- Supervisor contact and timeline
Supports planning and execution of departmental programs and events
Collabora‐tes with Manager to define tasks and timelines
Assists with Volunteer Recognition Ceremony :
- Drafts invitation and booklet content
- Coordinates with Medical Graphics for design
- Orders award pins*
Helps manage :
Holiday decorating
Oversees training of orientation volunteers and updates materials annually or as needed
Communicates schedule changes impacting orientation
Skills & QualificationsRequired :
- 2-4 years of administrative experience, preferably in a volunteer-focused role
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite*
Preferred :
- Experience coordinating volunteer programs in healthcare or nonprofit settings
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing needs
