Summary:
The Outreach Coordinator works closely with the Program Director of the Beacon Program to support the program’s community outreach activities to forge relationships with youth who are chronically absent or have dropped out of school and persuade them to engage in Beacon programming and in school.

Hourly Rate Range$22.00-$25.00
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Develop and implement an effective outreach plan for communicating with students, parents, families, the school community and other stakeholders about the Beacon Program.
- During the summer, supervise Teen Talk and Play and recruit middle and high school youth; coordinate with Activity Specialist to maintain Community Garden and Food Pantry; supervise SYEP participants.
- Engage hard‑to‑reach youth and young adults who do not participate in after school or community center programs.
- Identify, develop, and maintain contacts with community stakeholders, including community‑based agency leaders, community social services providers, neighborhood associations, residents, and others to promote the program.
- Assist in the development of electronic and print communication materials such as list‑serves, flyers, brochures, mailing lists, directories, and other related outreach materials.
- Conduct outreach and coordinate information gathering/sharing for participants on high school, college, and vocational opportunities.
- Provide general assistance with administrative tasks such as follow‑up telephone calls, mailings, photocopying, and faxes.
- Handle special projects as assigned by the supervisor.
- Attend department and program meetings as directed.
- Other duties as assigned.
This is a full‑time non‑exempt position:
Monday to Saturday flex hours between 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM. During summer July and August flex hours between 8 AM to 6 PM Monday to Friday.
- Ability and patience to work with children and young people, recognizing their exuberance and juvenile behavior, particularly in group settings.
- Remain in a stationary position either working at a computer or monitoring activities.
- Move for long periods, providing instruction.
- Travel when taking field trips, using public transportation, Traverse City streets, ascend/descend stairs, and be exposed to outside weather conditions while escorting youth.
Education and/or experience required: Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience in the field, bi‑lingual English/Spanish helpful.
Skills, Licenses, and/or competencies required:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; strong organizational skills; computer literate.
- Comply with DOE, SCA, and DOMHG, SACC regulations.
