Location: New York

Delaware Opportunities, Inc., is hiring a Nutrition Advocate to join our Community Services team! The ideal candidate for this position will coordinate, support, and expand participation in the SNAP program by assisting eligible individuals with the application process and providing education and outreach to the community about SNAP benefits. The candidate should demonstrate strong attention to detail, be dependable and motivated, and possess the ability to work with individuals and families in a respectful, non-judgmental, and supportive manner.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable engaging with the community, building partnerships, and working both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

Responsibilities
  • Provide public education on the benefits of SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program);
  • Provide media and other outlets to encourage potentially eligible individuals and families to participate in the SNAP program;
  • Perform pre-screening in the office and at outreach sites to determine likely eligibility for the SNAP program;
  • Provide home visits and other outreach activities to assist elderly and disabled individuals to apply for SNAP.
  • Provide application assistance, instruction, referrals, counseling, and advocacy to low-income persons seeking SNAP benefits;
  • Identify barriers to SNAP participation and provide advocacy to overcome the barriers;
  • Perform client in-take and data collection including follow-up and reporting on outcomes;
  • Perform other similar or associated duties as required or directed
Qualifications
  • Minimum of Associate's degree in human services, food or nutrition, dietetics or related field; and /or two years' experience in human services with experience assisting low income individuals;
  • NYS driver's license required;
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to interpret and implement programmatic policies and procedures, data entry experience
