Become a Vision Outreach Ambassador for the Lighthouse Guild
Every day, the Lighthouse Guild provides life-changing services to low‑vision clients. However, in a city of over 8 million, many New Yorkers who could benefit from these services are unaware that they exist. Introducing a new opportunity for volunteers who share our mission, we invite you to serve as an Outreach Ambassador. We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help us expand our reach, build meaningful connections, and ensure our programs and services are known and accessible to communities across the city.
As an Outreach Ambassador, you’ll be the bridge between our organization and the public through attending health and street fairs, public speaking, event coordination, and social media advocacy. You will play an essential role in connecting people with our services and volunteer opportunities while fostering trust.
- Represent the Lighthouse Guild at professional, community, and networking events.
- Share and distribute informational materials and promote awareness campaigns.
- Assist in planning, organizing, and supporting outreach events, such as fundraisers and advocacy programs.
- Serve as a volunteer for our various programs:
Reading Services, the Optical Center, and Guild Care. - Speak to individuals and groups about your experience with the Lighthouse Guild and the services we provide.
- Research public venues and events to table and promote the Lighthouse Guild and attend public events as LHG’s representative.
- Utilize social media, email, and community platforms to raise awareness about visual impairment and Lighthouse Guild initiatives.
- Encourage your peers, local businesses, community leaders and organizations to get involved through volunteer opportunities and advocacy efforts.
- Support staff with outreach projects and community engagement activities.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to younger volunteers where applicable.
- Listen to community needs and share insights with our team to improve programs.
- Must be flexible and a self‑starter who can adapt in a fast‑changing environment.
- Friendly personality with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including comfort speaking to strangers and groups.
- Cultural awareness and ability to engage with diverse audiences.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality is essential.
- Organized and dependable, with strong follow-through.
- Passion for advocacy, service, and raising awareness about visual impairment.
- Comfortable using social media, email, and networking platforms for outreach.
- Experience in event planning, community engagement, or nonprofit work is a plus.
- Enthusiastic, responsible, and proactive in promoting volunteerism.
