MUHSEN MissionMUHSEN is a nonprofit organization serving families individuals with intellectual, mental, and physical disabilities. MUHSEN works to establish inclusive and accessible North American Muslim communities for individuals with disabilities and their families. We do this through engaging in community advocacy and education (Awareness) and implementing and encouraging programs and services (Accommodation), leading ultimately to inclusive and welcoming communities (Acceptance).
Role OverviewThe New York Expansion Coordinator will play a vital role in expanding our reach across the region. This part-time position focuses on promoting MUHSEN’s culture of inclusion within communities, ensuring that individuals with special needs receive the support, programs and services they need.
Your responsibilities will include implementing MUHSEN programs, outreach, fundraising, and certification tailored to individuals with special needs. You will collaborate closely with local masjids, community leaders, and families to foster an inclusive environment for the Muslim special needs community.
Additionally, you will work with MUHSEN to develop and execute a regional plan aimed at enhancing the inclusivity and accessibility of Islamic organizations across the New York by overseeing the implementation of various MUHSEN programs and initiatives, maintaining regular communication with MUHSEN operations and staff, and providing updates and reports on activities and progress.
This role requires extensive travel within New York.
Key Responsibilities- MUHSEN Programs Management:
- Plan and execute national and regional events.
- Collaborate with other organizations and events to strengthen MUHSEN’s presence and mission.
- Administration & Communication:
- Maintain attendance and provide updates to supervisors as well as support MUHSEN reporting requirements
- Outreach:
- Proactively recruit new families to register with MUHSEN, offering support and resources for individuals with special needs.
- Engage with new communities and expand MUHSEN’s network.
- Masjid Certification:
- Recruit new masjids to join MUHSEN’s certification program.
- Initiate and manage the certification process across New York in collaboration with HQ
- Collaborate with and recruit facilitators to ensure programming is consistent and within MUHSEN’s mission.
- Community Engagement:
- Build and maintain relationships with local masjid leaders, community members, and families of individuals with special needs.
- Promote MUHSEN’s mission and initiatives to create awareness and support within the community.
- Actively work with the Development team in fundraising efforts to support MUHSEN’s programs, including specific campaigns during Ramadan and throughout the year.
- Facilitate Charity registration if required
- Valid driver’s license
- Travel within the New York region per strategic plan
- Familiarity with the Muslim community and its cultural values
- Experience working or volunteering with individuals with disabilities
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Clinical or special education experience strongly preferred
Experience in program development or curriculum planning - Willingness to travel as needed
