Job SummaryThe Associate Director, Philanthropy at IIE will manage a portfolio of prospects capable of making 6 to 8-figure gifts. The Associate Director, Philanthropy will be part of the Philanthropy team, whose members are passionate, energetic and collaborative and whose leadership provides professional mentorship and encourages professional growth. The Associate Director, Philanthropy will partner closely with the Chief Philanthropy Officer to strategically build and expand the major gift pipeline, deepen philanthropic relationships with those in a position to be most generous, and maximize philanthropic support for IIE mission.
The Associate Director is responsible for designing strategies for high-level prospects and donors to ensure that each constituent in their portfolio reaches their potential. Through personal visits and partnering with the CEO, Trustees and the Chief Philanthropy Officer, the Associate Director will identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and close 6 and 7-figure gifts. This role requires a strong passion for and commitment to IIE’s mission of advancing a more peaceful and prosperous world through expanded access to international education and exchange.
Functions
- Independently manage a portfolio and personally close gifts with IIE’s highest profile donors and prospects, including trustees and those who have the ability to give $500K+.
- Meet or exceed the benchmarks and fundraising goals for the assigned portfolio to contribute to the overall achievement of the IIE Philanthropy team.
- Work independently and as a part of a collaborative team to build relationships with prospects and donors within an assigned portfolio of individual prospects who have the capacity to make annual and multi-year leadership and major gifts.
- Assess giving potential, recommend target ask amounts and develop personalized strategies to secure gifts from respective prospects.
- Support or conduct face to face visits, solicitations and other interactions with major gift donors and prospects. Partner with colleagues to craft strategies, advance cultivation, and conduct face to face visits with donors.
- Identify new sources of support from individual leadership and major gift prospects.
- Identify potential candidates for planned giving.
- Work across teams to ensure reporting, agreement compliance and full redemption of pledges.
- Actively participate in prospect review meetings with colleagues to share and strategize cultivation and solicitation strategies.
- Coordinate with relevant program teams to develop communications that support donor strategy such as concept notes, proposals, presentations, and reports, from drafts through to final line-editing and formatting of finalized material.
- Support the cultivation and stewardship efforts of donors through events.
- Collaborate closely with Prospect Research as well as programmatic, finance, and operations staff to manage and track the entire donor cycle.
- Track all prospect outreach and information in the database. Prepare and file contact reports.
- Supervise the internal drafting and approval processes necessary for proposals and reports.
- Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
