Overview
This is a volunteer opportunity provided by Taproot Foundation, a nonprofit creating social change through pro bono connections. We are seeking a marketing professional to craft a Case for Support that communicates our organization’s mission, goals, and needs to potential donors, stakeholders, and supporters. The Case for Support should address the need, our solution, demonstrated impact, goals and strategies, financial needs, call to action, and recognition & stewardship.
The process includes several rounds of review with nonprofit leadership and any necessary training for using the Case for Support.
BCA is a nonprofit all-star cheer program empowering inner-city youth in New York City. Our mission is to help athletes develop leadership, discipline, and teamwork skills that prepare them for college and beyond. For many of our young people, BCA is more than a sport—it’s a safe space, a second family, and a launchpad for future success. We are preparing to raise funds to secure our own dedicated gym space.
Currently, limited access to facilities forces us to train in shared or inadequate spaces, which can disadvantage athletes and limit how many youth we can serve. A permanent home will mean:
- More practice hours and safer training conditions
- Room to welcome more athletes (instead of turning away 50% of tryouts due to financial/space limits)
- Reduced travel costs for competitions
- A hub where young people can learn, grow, and thrive together
To make this happen, we need a powerful, polished pitch deck that inspires donors to invest in our vision. We’re looking for volunteers with skills in design, storytelling, fundraising communications, or data visualization to help us:
- Add slides that showcase our financial needs, budget, and sustainability plan
- Bring our vision to life with compelling visuals of the future facility
- Strengthen the flow so the story leads to a clear, inspiring call to action
- Turn impact stories and statistics into easy-to-grasp graphics
Your time and talents will directly help BCA raise the funds to open the first nonprofit all-star cheerleading facility in NYC. That means more young people from underserved communities will have access to high-quality athletics, college pathways through cheer scholarships, and a safe community that fosters leadership and resilience.
Volunteer Role & What’s ExpectedThe marketing professional would have regular access to our executive leadership, and relevant team members will be directed to allocate time to meet with the professional during the discovery process. We are prepared to furnish the necessary financial data and current marketing collateral. We will also ensure that the professional has full access to all materials relating to how we deliver our programs.
We can also make program beneficiaries available to interview with the professional if needed.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in design, storytelling, fundraising communications, or data visualization
- Ability to conduct discovery to gain an understanding of mission, vision, values, and goals
- Ability to draft a Case for Support with respect to target audiences (individual donors, foundations, corporations, or other potential supporters)
Additional note: Beyond Cheer Athletics Mission:
To educate and empower inner-city youth through the sport of Cheerleading by developing leadership skills that will successfully prepare them as scholars, champion athletes and citizens for life in college and beyond.
