One for Democracy is a Galaxy Gives backed donor network committed to strengthening American democracy by supporting effective leaders, organizations, and strategies at the federal, state, and local levels. We work closely with donors, partners, and practitioners to identify high-impact opportunities, coordinate resources, and help scale what works.
Position OverviewThis Associate role will play a critical supporting role across administration, strategy development, and donor engagement. This position is ideal for someone who is highly organized, analytically curious, and eager to develop a deep understanding of the democracy ecosystem while working closely with senior leadership and major donors.
The Associate will help keep the organization running smoothly day-to-day while also contributing to strategic research, donor communications, and convenings. This role offers meaningful exposure to donor strategy, political philanthropy, and coalition-building at a national level.
Key Responsibilities Administration & Operations- Provide day-to-day administrative support to senior leadership, including scheduling, meeting preparation, note-taking, and follow-up.
- Help manage internal systems, trackers, and databases (donors, grants, partners, projects)
- Coordinate logistics for meetings, briefings, and events (virtual and in-person)
- Support budgeting, expense tracking, and basic operational processes
- Conduct research on political, policy, and philanthropic landscape trends relevant to democracy work
- Support the development of strategy memos, donor briefs, and investment frameworks
- Help synthesize information from partners, campaigns, and allied organizations into clear insights for donors
- Assist with monitoring progress against strategic goals and identifying gaps or opportunities
- Support donor communications, including drafting emails, briefings, and follow-up materials
- Help prepare materials for donor meetings and convenings
- Track donor engagement, interests, and follow-ups to ensure strong relationship management
- Coordinate with donors and partners in a professional, discreet, and responsive manner
- 1–3 years of relevant experience (political, nonprofit, philanthropic, consulting, or adjacent fields)
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Comfort handling sensitive information with discretion and professionalism
- Interest in democracy, politics, and donor-driven impact
- Proficiency with Google Workspace; experience with CRMs or donor databases is a plus
- A self-starter who takes initiative and follows through
- Someone who is both execution-oriented and intellectually curious
- A team player who can shift between administrative tasks and higher-level strategic work
- A person eager to learn how donor strategy and political ecosystems operate behind the scenes
