Description

Sign Up to Help 10th Graders Ace Future Interviews!

Our 10th graders have been learning about professionalism and how to join the workforce during our Saturday programming (aka “Super Saturdays”) and are ready to put those skills into practice through mock interviews.

New this year: students will also have the opportunity to interview you about your career. This role-reversal gives them a chance to practice public speaking, asking thoughtful questions, and building confidence in professional conversations — all critical skills for future interviews and networking opportunities.

We need you to act as a hiring manager to give them valuable, real-world experience applying these skills!

Date: Saturday, March 21th, 2026

Time: 10:00am - 1:00pm

Location: Beacon High School 522 W 44th St, New York, NY 10036, USA

Volunteer Responsibilities
  • Volunteers will lead two 10th graders through 20-minute mock job interviews, acting as a hiring manager.
  • In addition, volunteers will be interviewed by two students about their career experience, giving students the opportunity to practice asking questions, public speaking, and engaging in professional dialogue.
  • Breakthrough New York will provide an interview guide with suggested questions, as well as a rubric to assess students’ responses.
  • After each mock interview, volunteers will provide feedback based on the rubric and work with students to refine their answers.
  • Volunteers will repeat this process until they have both interviewed two students and been interviewed by two students.
  • First-time volunteers will need to complete a short background check.
