About Us

The Northern Manhattan Coalition for Immigrant Rights (NMCIR) educates, defends, and protects the rights of immigrants. As the longest-serving organization providing immigration-related services in Northern Manhattan and the Bronx, we offer culturally competent legal services, a vibrant Workers Center, and adult literacy classes that directly support our immigrant communities.

In addition to direct services, we advocate for systemic change through policy work and community organizing. Our mission is grounded in a healing-centered, trauma-informed approach that prioritizes safe and supportive interactions to foster resilience, dignity, and trust.

Position Summary

NMCIR seeks a part-time Development Manager to help balance and grow our nonprofit funding portfolio. This role works closely with the Executive Director, Development Consultant, and is supported by NMCIR’s Board of Directors. The Development Manager will focus on grants, appeals, events, and individual donors to build a more diversified and sustainable funding base.

This role is ideal for a self-starter who is strategic, organized, and mission-driven, with a clear understanding of how relationship-building and storytelling advance immigrant rights.

Fundraising Events

  • Plan, coordinate, and support fundraising events (e.g., annual gala, rooftop fundraisers, community gatherings).
  • Build and nurture relationships with funders and donors by hosting them at events and maintaining personalized outreach before, during, and after gatherings to ensure they feel welcomed, valued, and connected to NMCIR’s mission.

Data & Systems

  • Maintain accurate donor and grant records.
  • Track progress toward fundraising goals and generate reports for leadership.

Strategy & Collaboration

  • Partner with the Executive Director to develop annual fundraising strategies.

Community Engagement & Office Presence

  • Participate in staff meetings, planning sessions, and internal activities to stay connected to programmatic work and organizational priorities.
  • Serve as a welcoming face for funders and community partners visiting the office or attending events, helping them feel part of NMCIR’s work.
  • Collaborate with staff across departments to capture stories, program updates, and client impact to inform fundraising efforts.
