The Epilepsy Foundation of Metropolitan New York (EFMNY), an affiliate of CLC Group, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals affected by epilepsy through education, advocacy, and support. The Health Educator plays a vital role in promoting health awareness, delivering seizure first aid education, and supporting individuals served through OPWDD-funded programs. This position is central to our mission of empowering individuals, families, and communities with the knowledge and tools to respond effectively to epilepsy and related health needs.
EssentialFunctions Education & Training
- Develop and deliver seizure first aid training for staff, families, and community partners in accordance with OPWDD guidelines and EFMNY policies.
- Facilitate the bi‑weekly “Individuals with Epilepsy” support group, fostering peer connection and education.
- Create, translate, and distribute health education materials tailored to diverse audiences.
- Provide certificates and follow‑up resources post‑training.
- Support recertification efforts and stay informed on current research and best practices.
- Assist in developing internal policies and procedures related to health education.
- Conduct outreach via phone, email, and mail to promote programs and events.
- Build and maintain partnerships with healthcare providers, advocacy groups, and community organizations.
- Represent EFMNY at health fairs, community events, and agency committees.
- Coordinate tabling logistics and organize volunteers for outreach events.
- Lead marketing efforts including flyers, letters, and community‑based webinars.
- Maintain accurate records of trainings, attendance, and evaluations in compliance with OPWDD documentation standards.
- Track Family Reimbursement (FR) statistics and seizure training metrics.
- Assist potential clients with applications and outreach follow‑ups.
- Schedule and send reminders to clinicians and participants.
- Moderate meetings, take minutes, and manage inquiry communications.
- Cross‑check payer‑of‑last‑resort services and track individual expenditures.
- Plan and execute NEAM (National Epilepsy Awareness Month) campaigns and other awareness initiatives.
- Curate and post weekly social media content with relevant captions and hashtags.
- Engage with followers, respond to messages/comments, and grow EFMNY’s online presence.
- Manage social media release forms and update Link Tree to align with campaigns.
- Assist with grant tracking, reporting, and survey outreach.
- Call individuals who received services to gather feedback and complete evaluations.
- Retrieve reports from colleagues and maintain organized documentation.
- Support the Director of Development with miscellaneous requests and strategic initiatives.
- Participate in public speaking engagements on behalf of EFMNY (e.g., media, news outlets).
- Contribute creative ideas for programs, website content, and community engagement.
- Ensure all required clearances for direct support are obtained and maintained.
