Position: Outreach and Retention Specialist, Skill Spring/DYCD

Location: Multiple Sites (Five Boroughs of New York City)

Reports To: Program Director (DYCD)

About Skill Spring

Skill Spring, a workforce development program of The New Jewish Home, has supported NYC youth and young adults from under-resourced communities in pursuing careers in healthcare since 2006. We focus on training culturally competent healthcare professionals and generating enthusiasm for careers serving older adults.

Position Overview

We seek an Outreach and Retention Specialist to manage recruitment and retention for our youth programs, including HHA and CNA certifications. The role involves supporting participants' mental health, well-being, and self-management through small groups and individual sessions. Flexibility in working mornings, evenings, and Saturdays across multiple sites is required, with hours varying seasonally.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain relationships with educational, career development, and youth organizations to ensure enrollment and retention.
  • Lead participant recruitment efforts.
  • Support case managers in program retention activities.
  • Develop relationships with participants to encourage ongoing engagement.
  • Conduct follow-ups and provide individual employment support, including goal setting and progress tracking.
  • Coordinate and facilitate job readiness training and internship placements.
  • Organize monthly check-ins for young adults and alumni to promote self-efficacy and employability.
  • Collaborate with internal partners, government agencies, and community organizations to facilitate employment opportunities.
  • Maintain a database of employment, training, and internship opportunities.
  • Schedule, monitor, and report on participant activities, ensuring attendance and data accuracy.
  • Create a diverse, culturally sensitive environment for young adults.
  • Participate in staff training and events.
  • Ensure data collection and reporting meet accountability standards.
  • Develop tools to support employment and economic opportunities, including communication materials and policies.
  • Comply with WIOA regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Trauma-Informed training preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years supervisory experience.
  • Experience working with underserved youth communities.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, and travel within the Tri-State area.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or related field required.
  • Passion for youth work and familiarity with healthcare career paths.
  • Experience developing new roles or initiatives.
