About the Role:

We are looking for a VP of Marketing & Communications, who will grow the organization’s brand, membership, and performance. The VP of Marketing & Communications is part of the Executive Leadership Team, and will lead marketing efforts, which include creative campaigns, event branding, as well as designing both online and offline presence. This role also oversees all internal and external as well as executive communications.

A key member of the leadership team, this role will articulate brand and partner objectives through both internal and external experiences and manage the full event portfolio and practice of the organization. This role will set vision and direction of events while working cross-functionally to oversee all aspects of logistics, including location scouting, vendor selection, development and execution of event strategy and experience, budget development, ideation, execution, and fabrication.

The role will be tasked with continuously evolving and elevating our experiential identity while ensuring our programs resonate with and engage our leadership, community, and stakeholders. This role is an organization-wide leader who is on the Marketing & Communications team and reports directly to CEO.

Responsibilities:
Brand, Partnerships & Event Marketing (40%)
  • Increase reach and engagement by developing and executing a strategic roadmap for the organization’s digital, social media, email, and membership presence, focused on growing followers, deepening interaction, and amplifying advocacy impact through authentic and data-informed content.
  • Ensure brand delivers through compelling storytelling that connects audiences emotionally to the mission, highlights system-impacting outcomes, and positions the organization as a leader in advancing justice reform through partnership, creativity, and purpose.
  • Lead strategic and creative direction for marketing presence, opportunities, and partnerships, including fundraising events and campaigns.
  • Work collaboratively across the organization to coordinate and engage others in the organization’s annual and long-term marketing plans, including Communications, Advocacy, and Membership.
  • Oversee and manage the development of all aspects of the event process, including pitches, vision, partnership integration, sourcing, and production.
  • Support and execute internal events that contribute to the organization's culture and community.
  • Manage and lead third-party vendor relationships.
  • In partnership with COO, execute budget creation, implementation, and reconciliation.
  • Oversee event program recap elements, deck creation, and other case study materials for board and partner review.
  • Gather data on performance metrics and other measures of success; prepare analyses and reports related to marketing efforts and adjust marketing strategies and tactics accordingly.
Strategic Communications & Public Narrative (30%)
  • Lead and align all internal, external, legislative, and executive communications to advance the organization's mission.
  • Develop and oversee messaging frameworks, talking points, and narrative strategies that strengthen public understanding of justice reform.
  • Partner with internal teams to ensure cohesive storytelling across research, public relations, editorial, social, video, and photo.
  • Create and implement strategies that elevate the organization's voice while ensuring consistency, credibility, and values alignment.
  • Foster a high-performance, inclusive culture that prioritizes accountability, collaboration, and growth, ensuring each team member is aligned toward impact and excellence in execution.
