* POSITION OVERVIEW:

** The Manager of Media Relations is an integral part of the Communications Department and helps bridge the gap between the Communications and Sporting Department. The position plays a vital role in developing relationships with the coaches, players and sporting staff – as well as local, national and international media – by promoting the Club and creatively telling New York City FC’s sporting story to the public.

The Manager must posses an extensive knowledge of soccer, especially Major League Soccer and superior writing skills. The Manager must be able to work from the training facility in Orangeburg, NY, in addition to all home games across all the Club’s home venues for the First and Second team. The manager will regularly travel with the First Team for away games, Cup competitions, and preseason and postseason matches, with the aim of becoming a close and trusted extension of the Sporting Department.

At home games, the Manager, Media Relations will support the Director, Media Relations and play a key role in matchday media operations. Other areas of responsibility include ownership of MLS NEXT Pro affiliate New York City FC II.
** This position operates in a fast-paced sports environment and will require flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and non-traditional hours.

* WHAT YOU’LL DO:

New York City FC
*** Integrate into the First Team and the Sporting Department and become a key point of contact within the department
* Develop creative storylines to engage media to tell New York City FC’s sporting story
* Assist the Director, Media Relations in direct coordination with reporters and response to media inquiries
* Support the Director, Media Relations in coordinating media interviews with players, coaches, and front office staff
* Aid in daily media access at the Club’s training ground
* Monitor all New York City FC media coverage ensuring the Communications Department is aware of any issues that need to be managed
* Develop relationships with key sports journalists, soccer beat reporters and broadcast rights holders
* Organize and keep the media contact database up-to-date
* Assist the Director, Media Relations in distributing all media advisories and press releases
* Helping to develop, execute, and distribute all announcement plans for player signings, preseason and postseason tours, etc.
* Produce briefing documents for Sporting Department and players
** New York City FC II
*** Be the main point of contact for New York City FC II
* Develop key relationships with head coach and players
* Work with MLS, broadcasters and media to fulfill weekly media requests
* Oversee staffing and schedules of gameday staff
* Develop and execute all announcement plans for player signings, preseason and postseason matches
** Home Matches
*** Assist the Director, Media Relations in leading the matchday media operations and ensuring a premium matchday experience for media
* Create and distribute Game Notes and other matchday media needs
** Travel
* ** Regular travel with the team to away matches
* Travel to preseason, international friendlies, and other MLS media events as necessary
** Academy Communications
*** Identify and execute media opportunities for the Academy
** WHAT YOU’LL BRING:
*** 2-4 years of experience in media relations, preferably for a professional sports team
* High level of soccer knowledge, including MLS rules and regulations
* Superior writing and editing skills
* Proven track record of working with high-profile professional athletes and experience in a professional sports environment
* Ability to problem solve and handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion
* Knowledge of both New York and national media, and the ability to identify, connect, and leverage relationships to generate coverage
* Spanish language proficiency and ability to translate media assets to English
* Comfort traveling both nationally and internationally…
