OverviewWe are seeking a Senior Manager, Acquisition to drive execution of our US digital subscription acquisition efforts. This roleis responsible for translating acquisition strategy into results—optimizing channels, funnels, and paywall experiences to grow new digital subscribers across web, mobile, app, email, and third-party platforms.
The ideal candidate combines hands-on performance marketingexpertisewith a strong understanding of audience behavior and subscription economics. You will work closely with Editorial, Product, Data, Finance, and global Subscription and Marketing teams to deliver sustainable subscriber growth for a daily news organization.
Key Responsibilities- Execute and advance the end-to-end US digital subscriber acquisition strategy, with accountability for new subscriber performance
- Optimize paywall performance, funnels, landing pages, pricing, and promotions in partnership with Editorial, Audience Insights, Product, and Marketing teams.
- Plan, manage, and optimize paid acquisition channels including search, social, display, native, and emerging platforms
- Identify and develop audience segmentation and targeting strategies based on behavior, interests, and propensity to subscribe
- Collaborate closely with Editorial to surface high-converting content and audience entry points
- Use data and insights to improve conversion rates, CPA, and subscriber quality
- Lead A/B and multivariate testing across messaging, creative, offers, and user journeys
- Partner with Finance on acquisition budgets, forecasting, and performance tracking
- Work with Data & Analytics to evaluate cohort performance, early retention, and lifetime value
- Manage relationships with external agency partners as needed
- Stay current on platform changes, privacy considerations, and subscription best practices
- 5-6+ years of experience in subscriber acquisition, performance marketing, or growth, preferably in media, publishing, or consumer subscriptions
- Demonstrated experience driving growth in paid digital subscriptions
- Strong understanding of paywalls, acquisition funnels, pricing tactics, and subscription metrics
- Hands-on expertise with performance marketing channels, analytics tools, and attribution models
- Experience collaborating cross-functionally with Editorial, Product, Data, Marketing, and global teams
- Highly analytical with the ability to turn insights into clear actions
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and execution skills
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven news environment
- Experience at a news organization or digital publisher
- Experience with marketing automation and testing platforms
- Familiarity with first-party data strategies
- Number of new digital subscriptions
- Conversion rates across key funnels and subscriber quality indicators
- Cost per acquisition (CPA) and return on ad spend (ROAS)
- Contribution to overall digital subscription revenue growth
