We are looking for a Product Development Manager to join our team! The Product Development Manager plays a critical role in bringing products from concept to production by managing sourcing, development timelines, and cost strategy across a network of overseas factories. Working closely with the Product Director, PD Assistant, Design Team, Packaging Designer, and Compliance partners, this role ensures products are developed efficiently, cost targets are achieved, and timelines are maintained.
This role requires a highly organized individual who can wear multiple hats, manage several development projects simultaneously, negotiate with factories, and drive decisions that protect margin, quality, and delivery schedules.
The Product Development Manager will manage development through a factory matrix in China and Cambodia and oversee the full development lifecycle from initial concept through sample creation, costing, packaging coordination, and compliance readiness.
This role is Monday-Thursday in-office with WFH Fridays.
Key Responsibilities- Manage and expand a factory sourcing matrix across China and Cambodia.
- Identify, evaluate, and onboard factories based on capabilities, cost competitiveness, compliance readiness, and production capacity.
- Lead re-sourcing initiatives to support cost optimization, product innovation, and capacity requirements.
- Maintain strong factory relationships and ensure clear communication throughout development cycles.
- Build and analyze product costing models, including materials, labor, packaging, testing, and overhead.
- Support margin objectives by negotiating factory costs and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
- Apply retail math principles to evaluate target costs, margin expectations, and price positioning.
- Track and manage costing revisions to ensure accurate financial planning.
- Manage multiple product development projects simultaneously within tight timelines.
- Oversee the development lifecycle including concept alignment, sampling, costing, revisions, and approvals.
- Maintain and manage Work-In-Progress (WIP) reports to ensure full visibility of development progress.
- Troubleshoot development challenges and work with factories to resolve issues quickly.
- Work closely with the Product Director, Design Team, PD Assistant, sales team to translate product concepts into manufacturable designs.
- Partner with Packaging Designers, Product Designers and factories to ensure accurate designs, packaging standards and dieline fit.
- Coordinate with the US Compliance Officer to ensure products meet regulatory requirements.
- Support internal stakeholders by providing development updates and cost insights.
- Conduct competitive shopping and market analysis to inform product positioning, features, and pricing.
- Provide insights to support product assortment strategy and cost targets.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or related field
- 8+ years of product development or sourcing experience, preferably in consumer goods
- Strong understanding of retail math and product costing
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Experience working with overseas factories
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
- Strong project management and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
- Experience in travel accessories
- Experience working with licensed brands
