Position OverviewThe PD/Sourcing Manager will spearhead the development and sourcing strategy for the new Baby Hardlines division. This newly added role is critical to establishing processes, vendor partnerships, and product pipelines for categories that are entirely produced in China. This manager will work directly with Ownership to build and scale a cohesive assortment, with a heavy focus on Target and select additional retail partners.
The ideal candidate combines strong product development expertise with deep sourcing knowledge—especially within China manufacturing—for baby/juvenile consumer goods.
- Lead end‑to‑end development of baby hardlines products including blankets, feeding items, bath accessories, toys, gifts, and general non‑apparel categories.
- Build and manage the seasonal product roadmap aligned with retail needs, pricing targets, and trend direction.
- Oversee sample development, product revisions, packaging specifications, and pre‑production approvals.
- Ensure all products meet required child safety and compliance standards (CPSIA, FDA where applicable).
- Partner with design and merchandising teams to ensure product aesthetics, functionality, and cost targets align.
- Identify, negotiate, and manage vendor partnerships in China, securing high‑quality manufacturing at competitive costs.
- Develop and implement sourcing strategies for reliability, speed, and scalability as the division grows.
- Evaluate factories for capabilities, compliance, capacity, and quality assurance performance.
- Manage cost engineering, margin optimization, and vendor scorecards.
- Oversee production calendars, ensuring on‑time delivery and adherence to packaging, labeling, and testing requirements.
- Develop a strong understanding of Target’s requirements, timelines, compliance needs, and product expectations.
- Support product needs for additional accounts as they onboard.
- Create and manage line sheets, cost sheets, development trackers, and technical documentation for retailer presentations.
- Interface with buyers and cross‑functional partners to align product features, pricing, and seasonal assortments.
- Work closely with Ownership on strategic priorities and business goals for the new division.
- Collaborate with design, packaging, QA, logistics and merchandising teams to ensure each product’s lifecycle—from concept to delivery—is seamless.
- Coordinate factory visits (virtual or in person) to oversee production, troubleshoot issues, and support relationship development.
Skills & Qualifications
- 5–8+ years of experience in product development and sourcing, ideally in baby/juvenile hardlines or consumer goods.
- Strong working knowledge of China manufacturing, including factory capabilities, cost negotiation, and production management.
- Experience developing products for major retailers—Target experience strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with safety standards and testing requirements for baby hardlines products.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to juggle multiple categories and deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills; able to work closely with ownership and cross‑functional teams.
- Highly organized, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast‑paced growth environment.
