Water Treatment Plant Operator Trainee

Brief Job Description

This is an entry‑level trainee position in a municipal water treatment plant. Under the direct supervision of a qualified operator, the employee learns plant operations and maintenance through hands‑on training. Duties include assisting with operation and maintenance of pumps, valves, and equipment; performing physical and chemical water tests; supporting chlorination and filtration processes; and maintaining operational records. The position requires mechanical aptitude, basic knowledge of chemistry and science, dependability, and the ability to follow instructions and work well with others.

$25.48 - $30.01 per hour

Possession of a high school diploma or an equivalency diploma recognized by the New York State Department of Education.

Successful completion of a background investigation may be required prior to appointment.
