SUMMARY

The Master Form Carpenter is a senior-level skilled trades professional responsible for the design interpretation, fabrication, modification, and lifecycle management of complex wood forms used in precast concrete production. This role serves as the subject matter expert in wood form construction, blueprint interpretation, dimensional accuracy, and structural integrity of form systems.

The Master Form Carpenter operates with a high degree of autonomy and is accountable for precision, production efficiency, safety adherence, and continuous improvement within the woodshop and production environment.

Key Responsibilities Advanced Form Construction & Blueprint Interpretation
  • Interpret complex engineered drawings, architectural blueprints, and production schematics to construct precision formwork for precast concrete products.
  • Translate dimensional tolerances into structurally sound and reusable form systems.
  • Modify existing forms to improve yield, durability, and cycle time.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production leadership to troubleshoot design or constructability challenges.
Fabrication & Technical Execution
  • Fabricate complex form assemblies using advanced carpentry techniques and industrial woodshop equipment (CNC routers, shapers, planers, lathes, drill presses, and precision saw systems).
  • Perform precision measurement using calipers, micrometers, squares, and layout instruments to ensure dimensional compliance.
  • Apply structural bracing methods to withstand concrete pressure and repeated production cycles.
  • Maintain tooling, fixtures, and shop equipment to ensure operational readiness.
Quality & Process Improvement
  • Ensure all forms meet dimensional tolerances, structural integrity standards, and production specifications.
  • Identify process inefficiencies and implement improvements in workflow, sequencing, and material utilization.
  • Support lean manufacturing initiatives within the precast production process.
  • Conduct pre-pour inspections to verify readiness and compliance.
Leadership & Mentorship
  • Provide guidance and informal mentorship to junior carpenters and woodshop personnel.
  • Model safety-first behavior and reinforce adherence to OSHA standards and company safety protocols.
  • Support training initiatives for cross-functional team members.

Education & Experience Education

High School Diploma or GED required; trade certification or apprenticeship completion preferred.

Experience
  • Minimum 7–10 years of progressive carpentry experience.
  • At least 5 years in form carpentry within precast concrete, heavy civil, or commercial concrete construction.
  • Demonstrated experience constructing complex, high-tolerance form systems.
Physical & Working Conditions
  • Exposure to airborne particles, vibration, moving mechanical parts, and elevated noise levels.
  • Frequent lifting up to 50 lbs; occasional lifting beyond with assistance.
  • Frequent standing, climbing, kneeling, and ladder use.
  • Precast Concrete manufacturing environment.
