Water Treatment Plant Operator Trainee

The City of Batavia is seeking a Water Treatment Plant Operator Trainee. This trainee position involves learning the operation and maintenance of a water treatment plant under the direct supervision of a qualified operator, with on-the-job training provided to become a certified water treatment plant operator. Performs related duties as required.

• Learn water treatment plant operations through on-the-job training and supervision
• Assist with operating, adjusting, and monitoring pumps, valves, and mechanical equipment
• Support inspection, maintenance, and repair of plant equipment
• Conduct basic physical water tests (color, odor, taste)
• Conduct basic chemical water tests (alkalinity, residual chlorine)
• Assist with chemical treatment processes, including chlorination and chemical feeders
• Help clean and maintain filters and settling basins
• Maintain operational records and assist with reporting
• Perform progressively responsible duties as training and experience increase

Possession of a high school diploma or an equivalency diploma recognized by the New York State Department of Education.
