The City of Batavia is seeking a Water Treatment Plant Operator Trainee. This trainee position involves learning the operation and maintenance of a water treatment plant under the direct supervision of a qualified operator, with on-the-job training provided to become a certified water treatment plant operator. Performs related duties as required.
Key Responsibilities- Learn water treatment plant operations through on-the-job training and supervision
- Assist with operating, adjusting, and monitoring pumps, valves, and mechanical equipment
- Support inspection, maintenance, and repair of plant equipment
- Conduct basic physical water tests (color, odor, taste)
- Conduct basic chemical water tests (alkalinity, residual chlorine)
- Assist with chemical treatment processes, including chlorination and chemical feeders
- Help clean and maintain filters and settling basins
- Maintain operational records and assist with reporting
- Perform progressively responsible duties as training and experience increase
Possession of a high school diploma or an equivalency diploma recognized by the New York State Department of Education.
