The Sr. Production Manager will provide leadership and direction to a team of Production Managers across 2 Shifts to ensure Sonny’s Daily, Weekly, and Monthly Key KPI’s are achieved across Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory, and Productivity. The Sr. Production Manager will plan and oversee production output and ensure capacity is in place to meet customer demand. As a key member of the Plant Leadership Team, the Sr.

Production Manager will collaborate with peers to promote a culture of continuous improvement down to our frontline team-members focused on Safety & Stability, while supporting Sonny’s development into a world-class manufacturing organization.

Responsibilities
  • Team Leadership:
    Promote a work environment where Safety and Stability are prioritized above all metrics; oversee a group of Production Area Managers across Welding, Machine Shop, Paint, and Assembly responsible for delivering shift-level schedule adherence, delivery, and productivity.
  • Develop spans of control from Production Managers, Group Leaders, and Team Leaders to enable a culture of continuous improvement across all team-members.
  • Foster an environment where Leaders are Teachers, developing capabilities of Production Managers, Group Leaders, and Team Leaders to drive problem solving and continuous improvement on the shop floor.
  • Develop a culture of “Stop, Call, Wait” to respond to abnormalities, implementing countermeasures while addressing root causes.
  • Coach and develop skills of Group Leaders; ensure they have capabilities to achieve World Class Manufacturing operations.
  • Develop Skills Matrix to create a flexible workforce and training plans; partner with Production Managers and HR for proper onboarding and training procedures for new hires.
  • Production & Performance Management:
    Ensure shift-by-shift production targets are achieved; work with Production Schedulers to define daily plans and with Production Managers to ensure staffing to meet daily goals while minimizing overtime.
  • Develop tools to track daily/weekly capacity by work center; collaborate with Scheduling to meet delivery and productivity metrics.
  • Maintain and evaluate performance against KPIs; implement action plans and accountability to meet goals.
  • Work with Manufacturing Engineering to ensure standardized work and accurate cycle times in SAP to meet capacity, scheduling, and cost targets.
  • Ensure auditing of standard work and adherence to standards to avoid workarounds; promote Visual Factory and 5S for visible management and safe workplace.
  • Lead Daily Gemba Walks; maintain area boards with issues, owners, and due dates.
  • Drive a sense of urgency to solve problems for frontline team-members; collaborate with Maintenance and Engineering to ensure equipment performance.
  • Ensure Quality to Customer is upheld; collaborate with Plant Quality Manager to foster a culture of quality.
  • Develop Rolling 4-Week Master Schedule with Planning & Inventory Control to improve execution and minimize disruptions.
  • Capacity Planning:
    Evaluate capacity to meet forecast; maintain staffing budgets and plans; own annual staffing budgets with senior leadership.
  • Maintain plant capacity model and update with new equipment/improvements; share with Demand Planner monthly.
  • Evaluate capacity in multiple horizons (3, 6, 12+ months) and coordinate with Engineering to address constraints; participate in Monthly SIOP meetings as needed.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    Partner with Plant Leadership to drive Lean/Continuous Improvement; monitor, report, and communicate progress.
  • Foster a culture where Continuous Improvement is a core value; promote Learn-by-Doing and ongoing standard improvements.
  • Assess cost effectiveness of processes; implement recommendations to reduce costs and improve efficiency with the leadership team.
  • Consult with leadership and shop associates on process improvements; provide active support for problem-solving and performance improvement projects at all levels.
  • Identify, train, and coach in lean concepts; ensure team members seek small, incremental improvements.
