Overview

The Utility Maintenance Mechanic - Nights (N2) with a $10,000 sign-on bonus. Base pay range is $31.00/hr - $41.00/hr.

General Description:

The Utility Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for completing assigned maintenance duties to ensure customer, team member, and vendor satisfaction. The Utility Maintenance Mechanic performs onsite maintenance for production equipment by completing breakdown and preventative maintenance on all filling, packaging, processing, and palletizing equipment. The Utility Maintenance Mechanic will diagnose, repair, and replace industrial equipment in a fast-paced production environment to support the manufacturing of dairy-related products.

• Responsible for achieving assigned goals in the area of maintenance, safety, quality, performance, and cost.
• Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair mechanical malfunctions to increase productivity and equipment capabilities, including disassembly and reassembly of machinery, overhauling gearboxes, and replacing bearings/bushings.
• Read blueprints, schematics, and diagrams to determine the method and sequence of assembly of a part, machine, or piece of equipment.
• Expedite the reentry of down equipment within a manufacturing environment to working conditions.
• Repair and calibrate hydraulic and pneumatic assemblies.
• Test the performance of electro-mechanical assemblies using test instruments such as multi-meters, voltmeters, and ammeters.
• Install electronic parts and hardware using soldering equipment and hand tools.
• Operate, test, program, and maintain complete manufacturing lines such as beverage filling machines, conveyors, and palletizers.
• Source parts from vendors when not available or with long lead times; order parts in a timely manner to ensure equipment reliability.
• Maintain Maintenance Inventory System to ensure accurate inventories.
• Communicate effectively between shifts and other departments, including equipment status to supervisors/coworkers and logbook documentation.
• Follow GMPs, SOPs, corporate and/or plant policies, rules, and regulations.
• Follow OEM manuals and execute accurate procedures according to those manuals.
• Aid and support all areas in the production facility as assigned by supervisor/lead.
• Gain competence in online circuits and learning proper hookups made in the facility.
• Cover breaks and lunches, and other staffing needs as assigned by supervisor/lead.
• Comply with all legal requirements concerning dairy processing and safety on assigned shift and report to supervisor/lead as needed.
• Work safely, report safety concerns promptly, and take corrective actions as necessary to ensure a safe environment.
• Report food safety problems and support SQF by maintaining food safety and food quality; ensure work areas are sanitary and adhere to sanitation practices.

• Knowledge of boilers, ammonia refrigeration, steam, air compressors, HVAC, sprinkler systems, and electrical systems.
• Knowledge of boilers and chemistry testing is preferred.
• Knowledge of ammonia systems is preferred.
• Ability to read and respond to basic to complex inquiries from employees, vendors, and customers.
• Knowledge of Root Cause Analysis, Troubleshooting methodology, 5S, and Lean Manufacturing concepts.
• Knowledge of OSHA general safety regulations, PPE, energy control, confined space, chemical safety, and fall protection.
• Mastery-level skills in at least one area of Maintenance (e.g., electrical fabrication, refrigeration, welding, controls programming).
• Advanced knowledge of common wear points on equipment and following manufacturer lubrication recommendations.
• Disciplined aptitude for repair and uptime urgency.
• Extensive tool ownership (SAE and Metric) to perform mechanical repairs on automation equipment.
• Read, write, and communicate effectively in English to perform job functions.
• Understand the company's mission, purpose, goals, and your role in achieving them.
• Ability to operate facility equipment as required in assigned area.
• Complete all required training.
• Ability to interpret company documents, literature, and UPC/code information.
• Ability to apply basic to complex mathematical concepts relevant to job tasks.

• A minimum of GED or High School Diploma required.
• Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in a mechanical automation field.
• Technical trade, military training, or technical college strongly preferred.
• Experience with VFDs, stretch or blow molding, conveyors, pumps, pneumatic sanitary valves, and pneumatic/hydraulic systems.
• Experience with programmable logic controllers, instruments, and controls.
• Experience with closed cooling systems, evaporator towers, cooling towers, and chillers.
• Experience in a food manufacturing environment preferred; HVAC experience is a plus.
