VP, Strategy and Chief of Staff – Kingsborough Community College
Kingsborough Community College (KCC), founded in 1963, is a community college located in Manhattan Beach, Brooklyn and one of 25 institutions within the City University of New York (CUNY) system. The Vice President of Strategy and Chief of Staff reports directly to the President and serves on the President’s Senior Staff. The role provides leadership and supervision for strategic planning, external relations, and the President’s office operations.
Responsibilities- Strategic plan design, implementation and ongoing management.
- External relations, including with government officials and community organizations.
- The President’s office operations and staff.
- Ensure the college carries out its mission through a five‑year strategic plan with metrics, reporting, and assessment.
- Finalize the strategic plan, create a managed annual reporting process, and provide key data to relevant constituencies.
- Monitor progress toward objectives and adjust strategies and tactics as needed.
- Lead special strategic policy and program initiatives for the President, such as evaluation of the academic schedule.
- Lead VP, Deans, and Department Chairs in annual planning to align departmental goals with the college’s strategic plan.
- Manage the college’s participation in key organizations (e.g., Aspen Institute, Achieving the Dream).
- Serve as the President’s and College’s lead liaison for government and community affairs, building relationships with business representatives, civic groups, and public officials.
- Oversee daily external affairs activities with Communications and Partnerships offices.
- Provide leadership in the Office of the President: manage daily operations, staff supervision, budget administration, develop systems to enhance performance, and recruit staff reporting to the President.
- Represent the President in interactions with internal and external constituents.
- Coordinate the President’s cabinet and senior staff, and support the President’s management of such.
- Convene and coordinate the President’s office for special events and initiatives at the college and in the community.
- Collaborate with the Communications Office to respond to media inquiries.
- Manage correspondence and communications from the President; draft letters, emails, invitations and other communications to maintain high standards of quality.
- Ensure efficient and timely responses to constituent inquiries and issues on an ad‑hoc basis, exercising judgment to analyze issues and develop solutions.
- Ensure the President’s staff works effectively with other units of the college, including academic affairs, advancement and communications around policy concerns, crisis management and communications.
All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years’ related experience.
- Track record of executive‑level leadership and management of strategic planning within complex urban organizations, including highly unionized settings and/or experience with academic shared governance.
- Extensive experience with administrative and personnel management, transparently and collaboratively managing constituents toward clear goals.
- Experience with data and metrics‑driven performance management and familiarity with technology platforms for reporting.
- Exceptionally strong written and oral communication skills.
- Documented extensive project and organizational management skills.
- Highly detailed‑oriented and results‑focused.
- Strong political acumen to navigate a complex academic setting and cultivate relationships.
- Commitment to the mission of an urban community college and its diverse students.
Base Pay: $185,000 – $200,000 per year.
